Looking for Space Lyrics

On the road of experience
I’m trying to find my own way
Sometimes I wish that I could fly away
When I think that I’m moving
Suddenly things stand still
I’m afraid ‘cause I think they always will

And I’m looking for space
And to find out who I am
And I’m looking to know and understand
It’s a sweet sweet dream
Sometimes I’m almost there
Sometimes I fly like an eagle and
Sometimes I’m deep in despair

All alone in the universe
Sometimes that’s how it seems
I get lost in the sadness and the screams
Then I look in the centre
Suddenly everything’s clear
I find myself in the sunshine and my dreams

And I’m looking for space
And to find out who I am
And I’m looking to know and understand
It’s a sweet sweet dream
Sometimes I’m almost there
Sometimes I fly like an eagle and
Sometimes I’m deep in despair

On the road of experience
Join in the living day
If there’s an answer
It’s just that it’s just that way

When you’re looking for space
And to find out who you are
When you’re looking to try and reach the stars
It’s a sweet sweet sweet dream
Sometimes I’m almost there
Sometimes I fly like an eagle and
Sometimes I’m deep in despair
Sometimes I fly like an eagle
Like an eagle, I go flying high, ooh

My favourite JD song. I love the acceptance in the song--that it is enough to enjoy the journey, and not to worry and over-analyze the reason or the end destination. "Be in the moment" is another way to say it. A truly wonderful songwriter.

you know in life we all have problems and john denver had a very big heart and all the sadness that people and mother nature suffer from really got to him, sadly he turned to the bottle for the last few years of his life, i have a theory that his plane crash was no accident i hate to beilve that he would crash into the ocean on purpose but perhaps we will never no the truth

John Denver was such an amazing man. This song, like so many other songs he wrote, is truly inspirational. And his voice was awesome.

This is my favorite John Denver song and I listen to it whenever I'm having tough times. This song is all about him using the teachings of Werner Erhard who held seminars from 1971 to 1984 which were called "est" for "Erhard Seminar Training". John Denver was its "poster boy". The terminology in this song are all ones that were used in the training and "Looking for Space" is basically est in a nutshell! Finding your own "space" and your own "center" were coping strategies to help people deal with their lives. Using est, you accepted that life has ups and downs and this is what the line "Sometimes I fly like and eagle and sometimes I'm deep in despair" means. Followers were taught to "experience" both the good and the bad. That life is like the line on a heart monitor, going up and down, if it's a straight line...you're dead! Instead of fighting negative feelings, you accept how you're feeling and then you can move forward. I love the line: "If there's an answer it's just that it's just that way". In today's terms..."Shit happens"! You don't need to waste time figuring out WHY! John Denver certainly had his own demons which probably brought him to est in the first place. No doubt about it. This song is about est.
