Fly High Michelle Lyrics

Six o'clock in the morning
Still sitting here pouring
The drinks 'til they're gone
We did everything together
Would have done it forever
How did we go wrong?

I know that what goes up
Comes down
I didn't know you'd hit the ground

Why'd you have to give it up?
(Fly high Michelle)
Ooh, you were just a little girl
(Fly high Michelle)
I'll never look into your blue eyes
(Fly high Michelle)
Fly high Michelle

We did it just for a good time
A misunderstood time
We lived with a fear
I wish we still could of done things
And not overhung things
I wish you were here

I know I live a life
Of could have beens
Until a new life begins

Why'd you have to give it up?
(Fly high Michelle)
Ooh, you were just a little girl
(Fly high Michelle)
I'll never look into your blue eyes
(Fly high Michelle)
Fly high Michelle

I'll say another prayer
Tonight
And I'll see you in the light

You had to give it up
(Fly high Michelle)
Ooh, you were just a little girl
(Fly high Michelle)
I'll never look into your blue eyes
(Fly high Michelle)
Fly high Michelle

You had to give it up
(Fly high Michelle)
Ooh, you were just a little girl
(Fly high Michelle)
I'll never look into your blue eyes

I'm listening to this song right now. It's definitely about a girl's suicide written from the perspective of her ex-boyfriend who is drunk, reminiscing and grieving that he'll never see her again and that she shouldn't have given up her struggle with life.

He's wishing they could have done more together, and that it may have swayed her from suicide, midway through the song the lyrics change to "You had to give it up" meaning he's realized there's nothing that could have swayed from her suicide

In their late teens, young friends experiment with much heavier drugs than alcohol and marijuana. Family values -- taught and warned that drugs are bad, was always in the backs of their minds, so they were aware of and feared ... and miscalculated the danger. He was able to pull himself back from the edge and move on; however, Michelle's recreational use of drugs became a full blown addiction. While he was getting on with his life -- in his quest for success he was not around much to see warning signs that Michelle was spiraling out of control. Unaware that she hit rock bottom and was unable to bounce back, when Michelle's young, drug-addled life was cut short by an overdose, he was devastated and shocked ... he still misses her very much. He had no idea things were that bad ... he can't believe he didn't see it coming, and he's beating himself up over it. He feels selfish, partially responsible, and bears a tremendous amount guilt for not being there to intervene and possibly save her.

My Interpretation

I think this song is obviously about his girlfriend overdosing on drugs. In the lyrics it says "we did it for a good time" Also the lyrics refers to what goes up, must come down. I think this is a light hearted reference to getting high and coming down from that high. Unfortunately she hit rock bottom with drug use and overdosed.

I think this track is about questioning someone's girlfriend (Michelle's) suicide.

Fine writing Audrea. Being a little older now, this song strikes me as being indestructible when young. Pushing yourself to the limit never thinking you won't wake up from that last one you just did. And then it happens: no one comes along with Narcan in time. Gone. So, where do you end up? As I def did some drugs in the day, there is a way out with meaning to your life. There is a God heaven that loved you enough to pay the price so you don't have to. As a Christian now, i too deal with depression on the inside. Some of y'all think we think we are perfect, when we know we ain't. I have also seen the other side, and want no part of that. The # of the beast is for real. You think you know depression? Wait til that reality hits home, for he truly hates all humans and will laugh at you all the way to...too late, you're there, and it's no party. So i carry the hope of Jesus with me. He will fill you with joy you didn't think possible. I still have down days, we all do, but don't wait to wake up to a place where where you will forever wish you hadn't, cuz it is possible. I could have, and can't tell you enough how good it feels to be able to tell you this. Ask Jesus to fill your soul and push out the darkness. Please! Before it's too late and you wake up in hell forever.
