Parable Of The Sower Lyrics
I've woken again in an ocean of salt,
Drenched from recurring
Dreams of such horror.
They haunt my evenings.
Nightmares of a future so absurd
This fantasy of events could never occur.
Such vivid imagery has me
Blurring all kinds of lines
Between here and reality.
Billboards have replaced all window panes.
Faith is less a feeling and more a mandate.
Fed up are the sun and the moon.
They're burning up and leaving soon.
My twisted imagination
It has a mind of its own.
Wake me from this dream.
My crooked precognition.
Its distance from the truth grows.
Please wake me from this dream.
There's an answer for everything
Hiding behind child-proof plastic locks
And under cotton swabs.
There's medicine for every ill.
If the money's right
The pain can be drowned with a bitter pill.
All the women are paper thin.
Their necks barely hold up their heads.
Boys have been trained
And prepared since birth
To serve their role
And fight until their death.
My twisted imagination
It has a mind of its own.
Wake me from this dream.
My crooked precognition.
Its distance from the truth grows.
Please save me from this dream.
It's only a fabrication.
This place is all in my head.
It's only a fabrication.
This place is all in my head.
I rub my eyes to find
This whole time I thought
I was in a slumber,
They've been open wide.
Drenched from recurring
Dreams of such horror.
They haunt my evenings.
This fantasy of events could never occur.
Such vivid imagery has me
Blurring all kinds of lines
Between here and reality.
Billboards have replaced all window panes.
Faith is less a feeling and more a mandate.

I love the concept of this song. Good Job, Forgive Durden...
I beilieve this song has its meaning right in front of us. The person is denying how the world he thought was a dream is actually his reality and ours. Girls wanting to be skinny new medicines to cure people for right money the atmosphere suffering cause of pollution and even loss of faith. and what is he screaming before they do the "its only a fabrication" bit?
yeah. basically he's saying that in his wildest dreams, he never imagined the world would be in the state it's in now.
i love this song. so clever and bloody true. so in other words, the world as it is now is so twisted, corrupted and surreal the narrator thought it was a dream because they couldn't believe it was true. turns out it was reality and it's the world we are living in. ace.
this song is so beautiful & deep. i agree, its so true.
yeah, they played in the basement of a church where i live twice in the past month in a half (it was $6 pay at the door!!) and i meant to ask what he was screaming before that, but, when you get so excited in moments like that, you kind of forget ):
zoobe_40 gets it again!
The song is the main character's awakening: this world has fallen so far, it is simply inconceivable. Everything in the 4th stanza expresses that: There are drugs for anything. Boys are raised to die in war.
Everything seems so backwards and wrong, that the drunken singing of "It's only a fabrication" really shows how screwed up things are.
Art: the inside cover shows the main male character looking around on a street of identical green people
this song is about religion and how people have corrupted it. the title of the song is a reference to Luke 8:4 which is also titled "The Parable of The Sower".
Luke 8:4 states: "And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable: a sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear."
It is saying that the religious authority has been given to people who are wasting it. Corrupt people are taking over religion. I am not a religious person, but i stumbled upon this one day. I think what really confirmed it for me was the line "faith is less a feeling, more a mandate."
i'm pretty positive this is the exact meaning of the song as the band meant it to be, however, i am one to think that a song can have different value to any person, so take it how you want.
