I'm pretty sure that this song is self-explanatory. And the way he sings it, it just makes it so much more real.
The singer is in love with a woman who lights up his world with happiness, and so she is his sunshine, and then she goes and loves someone else, and it shatters his heart, but still he pleads with her to stay, and be his sunshine, and not take herself away because she's the sunshine in his world and he loves her and he needs her. It's a beautiful love song about true love.
