Always A Relief Lyrics
It's always a relief to see you again
It's as if you don't change and you always complain
We hate different things
And different tastes
How people sing
What they create
Want to feel the illusion
The confusion
Some nerve to go against me now that we're ahead
You want to know how hard you'd fall if you did?
It feels like our time has gone to waste
Want to feel strong and not like a waste
Want to feel the illusion
The confusion
It's as if you don't change and you always complain
And different tastes
How people sing
What they create
Want to feel the illusion
The confusion
You want to know how hard you'd fall if you did?
Want to feel strong and not like a waste
Want to feel the illusion
The confusion

this song is absolutely amazing. dreamy, sad,
i think it's about the coming togethero f two people who were once in a long relationship but haven't seen each other in a long time. the speaker is being sarcastic with the "always a relief to see you again" line, but part of me also can't help but think he is secretly relieved to see the other person, and he's trying to figure out all that has passed between them and how someone he once loved could hurt him.
this is definitely the 'prequel' perhaps for Pulling Our Weight. The beginning is the same and the theme of lovers is once again presented but at the same time, the theme of struggling to keep the love alive is leaden in the lyrics
this is my fave song
i totally feel related to this song
Another really cryptic song on an album that is mostly straightforward, but if I had to put my finger on it, I feel like it's somebody that you've made amends with going back on your newfound peace. As if, things became resolved and broken bones were mended, and yet this person is trying to open a new can of worms by pushing and not letting go of the past. It's almost like he's warning her and saying, "Back the fuck off, because I will be far worse than you've ever remembered me to be because I've dealt with your bullshit before."
I believe this song is about an unrequited love. The singer, is in love with someone who leads him on, but who ultimately does not love him back. And it's a shame, considering how much he cares for the other, noted right away in the first line: "It's always a relief to see you again." Even though he feels this strong connection towards the one he's singing to, they have their differences: "we hate different things" (and of course, opposites attract). The "illusion" and "confusion" lines were tough to figure out, but they make sense now. Because the singer is lead on, he is obviously "confused" and has the "illusion" that he'll one day attain that love in return. Also, the one he sings to may also be "confused"- he/she may not know exactly what he/she wants or loves and is scared to be in a serious relationship. Idk, this may be overanalyzing things a bit, but I thought of all this one night when I was stoned and it just made perfect sense. Maybe because I was going through similar instances.
Try My Boots by Lights. I think it may be perfect for you.

i think the illusion and the confusion are more that feeling true love itself is an illusion, a confusing illusion considering how badly we all want it. we're kind of just individuals, hating different things, which makes coming together into relationships and really feeling love kinda hard to believe, and maybe it's our own creation in our heads rather than a real bond.
