Left Behind Lyrics
Cleaning up the things she left behind
Are you on to find some peace of mind
Are you aware of the mess you left behind
Scared to think away the cheer
Looking back in a mirror
It all becomes clear
The views are not the same
I see sun, you see rain
Cleaning up the mess you left behind
Are you on to find some peace of mind
Are you aware of the mess you left behind
Looking back in a mirror
It all becomes clear
The views are not the same
I see sun, you see rain

This is now one of my favourite songs on The Garden, it's so beautiful and displays perfectly the pure melancholy and lack of self-worth a break up of this kind leave you with.
'Scared to think away the cheer' Is a beautiful line, it indicates the subject trying to hold onto everything which could and has been; the hope, the love, the nostalgia. The next few lines indicate his and her views towards the potential of the relationship. He sees long lasting happiness, love, while she has a vision of restlessness and unhappiness.
The essence of the song pulling yourself together after losing everything. I definitely see it more as being her leaving him; 'Are you aware of the mess you left behind?' Do you really care at all what you've done to me? etc.
Self-explanitory, I think. There's always stuff to clean up at the end of a relationship. even if it's harder for the person doing the leaving than the person who was left.
It's such a beautiful song, and to think that it's just guitar and voice from a band that falls into the electronica category.
Mm, I love this song. It's so sad and beautiful, it captures the way you feel when a relationship ends, like you've stepped out of the shade and the sun's dazzling you and making everything clear. You have no idea why you got with the person in the first place really, and you're a bit upset it didn't work out, but you're still glad to be out.
OMG this song is so depressing. I really hate how I can relate to it so much
Not that it's a big difference but I hear the line:
Are you on to find some peace of mind
"And you ought to find some peace of mind"
Takes on a slightly sarcastic tone, almost disdainful. I think there's always a touch of that at the close of a relationship, especially in light of the line about the differing views (i see sun, you see rain)
