Cue the Sun Lyrics
It starts with a canvas
A starchy, blinding white
Then comes the flash of illumination
And the tools to record the plight
So I begin drowning the surface
With a swamp of acrylic swirls
I'll get it right this time
This time it will last
Look at the world I've created
Watch as it turns like a top
From the oceans and tides
To the clouds in the sky
It's more than you could ever dream
To afford
It ends with a loose strand
And a curious hand
Like a boy who stumbles upon
His father's gun
It's housed in a sock drawer
Next to cigarettes and cheap porn
He loads the chamber with one destined shot
Father always regrets he left the safety off
Look at the world I've created
Watch as it turns like a top
From the oceans and tides
To the clouds in the sky
It's more than you could ever dream
Look at the world I've created
Watch as it turns like a top
From the malls and states
To the smokestacks and freeways
It's much more than you can afford
You've wasted this gift
On the beauty and science
And now my voice won't be ignored
I'll pull back the blinds
And open all your eyes
Let the sun drown you all, all, all!
A starchy, blinding white
Then comes the flash of illumination
And the tools to record the plight
So I begin drowning the surface
With a swamp of acrylic swirls
I'll get it right this time
This time it will last
Watch as it turns like a top
From the oceans and tides
To the clouds in the sky
It's more than you could ever dream
To afford
And a curious hand
Like a boy who stumbles upon
His father's gun
It's housed in a sock drawer
Next to cigarettes and cheap porn
He loads the chamber with one destined shot
Father always regrets he left the safety off
Watch as it turns like a top
From the oceans and tides
To the clouds in the sky
It's more than you could ever dream
Watch as it turns like a top
From the malls and states
To the smokestacks and freeways
It's much more than you can afford
On the beauty and science
And now my voice won't be ignored
I'll pull back the blinds
And open all your eyes
Let the sun drown you all, all, all!

In my opinion, in my completely non-religious opinion, yes God is narrating.
In the beginning He's creating the world, and He is saying that "he'll get it right this time" implying that he did something wrong last time. Sort of like the story of Noah's Ark. (When God drowned all the people to start over from scratch). In the first verse and chorus, he's talking about how awesome the world is, and how he's proud of it.
Then, the second verse about the boy is a metaphor for the human race, and how we don't think we are doing anything wrong, and we are figuring everything out, and trying to make it easier for us. I.e Gasoline powered cars, cutting down forests for paper, etc. But by doing all of this, we are basically shooting ourselves in the head.
The last verse/chourus is talking about how much we have screwed up the world and polluted it and now God's pissed and he's going to have the sun drown us all (global warming).
Powerful song. I'm not religious, but I think it's about God telling us how we've wasted life and his world by turning everything that was so precious into a world of hate and greed.
To a?? should be To afford.
doh, Thanks
works pretty well that the title is a line said by christof from the truman show then, huh? :)
The finale to the concept album: yes, God is narrating and he plans to correct the mess we have made of this world ("You've wasted this gift/On the beauty and science") Like in the Parable of the Sower, the World will 'reawaken' by the blinding of the light -> which could be more or less religious, or as ForgiveNykky suggested, literally global warming.
What's interesting is the line:
It ends with a loose strand And a curious hand
And the long metaphor that follows: so it makes God/god seem not intent on destroying the world, but rather, seeking to recreate.
**I use to see this album as depressing and not hope worthy, but the previous song (I've got a witch...) makes me think of redemption -- If not even a type of earthly heaven (still full of problems I mean). So while the world will be destroyed, there is hope within love and true living.
MOST. AMAZING. ALBUM. EVER.
