Desecration Smile

I´m from argentina, i speak english not very well.

But, I was reading your comments about “desecration smile” and I think than are very good but I disagree with you, and let me explain you why.

I was going out with a girl for five years, we were planning our wedding by October 2009 but I found in her computer than she was chatting with her ex boyfriend and I realized that she didn´t love me like I supposed.

I had never had any dude about her feelings, and when I knew about those chat I was very sad but mainly disappointed.

When I reed “desecration smile” and I understood the meaning of desecration I knew that this word (and this song) described my feelings

I really believed in my girlfriend, I really love her I wanted have children with her, and our relationship was sacred for me. When I found out than she had feeling to other person and than I wasn´t “her number one”, I started to going out with other women but no one filled me and then I started to remember how she was or what kind of thinks I loved doing with my ex girlfriend, etc. and all those memorys made feel very sad, again and again (rolling black out of oblivion)

“Coca cola doesn´t do the justice she enjoys” means that no matter how many girls you met, after a while you will start to feel yourself incomplete, empty, sad.

For all this reasons I believe that this song is about love and how you feel when the other person do something that you think it was imposible

This song is about unrequited love. Or a relationship where there was mutual love but it has died for one person.

"Another girl bad for my health" - because you love them so much it makes you hurt to see that the love has died/is not returned.

"Serenaded by the terror bird" - you fell in love with someone who is awful to you, doesn't do nice things for you, doesn't appreciate you etc or fell in love with someone who has anger issues and takes it out on you.

"Its seldom seen but its never heard" - they don't tell you they love you or do anything for you to make you feel special. But at the same time ("seldom seen") they do just enough every now and then to keep you hanging on. This is stringing a person along.

"I'd like to think that I'm your #1" - you wish you were their #1, and sometimes wish it so hard you end up believing it.

"I wanna leave but I just get stuck, a broken record runnin low on luck" - theres a battle going on in your head, you want to leave because they treat you badly and you feel unloved, but at the same time you love them so much that you just can't let go.

"I love the feeling when it falls apart" - its almost a relief when its over because you can stop the constant sadness you feel and hopefully move forward

"I'm slow to finish but I'm quick to start" - meaning its so easy to fall in love with someone quickly, but leaving/falling out of love is a long drawn-out painful process. Always going back and forth between thinking you should stay or go, always slow to finish.

I feel as thought this website is missing like half of the lyrics.

listen to the first line, hes all alone but not by himself, hes all alone with his drug thats why its bad for his health, this song is about both love and drugs and how bad breakups with girls he loved or liked alot, hes smiling because when hes under the influence he is happy, he cant help but smile even though he knows its wrong, thats his desecration smile.

i originally didnt think that this song had 2 do with anthony gettnig high cos of the pain caused from a girl, because it could have been heartbreak and depression that was "bad for his health" but if u take into consideration the lines such as "disinegrated by the rising sun" and "coca cola doesnt do the justice she enjoys" hes probably talking about turning to heroin to deal with the problem. he went on drug runs all night till the sun came up, and as for the coca cola line, coke slang for cocaine wasnt making him feel as good as he would have felt if he had this girl. however u take it, the opening 4 bars of this song are by far the best and most complex since (this is the place). "ive seen it all through someone else" could either mean that somebody else is with the girl that he wants, or that hes refering to himself in a sober state as opose to his desecration. "im slow to finish but im quik 2 start" probly means that his initial idea to solve his problem is 2 get high, even tho according to his book that lasted for several days at a time. I hate the fact that you wrote "I’ve seen it all thru someone else" Seriously?! It's "THROUGH" not "THRU"!!!

this one version is better than the older one.

this song has two giutar parts to it..that is wat makes it reli gd..and frusciante's back up is pretty sweet..this is one of my faves on the album cuz of the acoustic git.
