When the parallel spiral unravelled
Before the firm grasp of my abominable
Came my birth in the well of the wretched

Novaë, braggart of a last jest

My non-Sylph spread down
In the core of the hideous carnival grotto
Covering me of a Viperean mask

EnoreKiK eKarov sed xueil dSevape
TnarutpaK nom ruehlam ne snoredial
Rus ed Selpitlum SeteKaf ud tiafneib

The grand fork silence
Arising for the anchor's cell

Enu eReip eroloKni, L noisrevni ed Al eLitnel
Enu egnarte emrof, L riovuop sed sreinred-sen

A maelstrom where repose the villains
Of the bazaar of virtues

Denaturation of the ork by the Zirconyum
A grinch in the night wearing its crystals eternally

A dispirited lunatic passage
Broken by the traitors...
By this pernicious soothing

A mistake followed itself in the decisive cryptage
When the telescope fell on the inverted astron
The utopia was not mechanically very long
And logic vanished under the illogical

"If only there has been a claim for my sectimes
My poor sectimes... they are... they are mine!!!"

A frenetic impulsion influenced
When escaping the human yawning chasm
This globe transformed into memories

Novaë, braggart of a last jest

My sylph fled...
After the (firm) grasp of my abominable
Allowing me to wear my Viperean mask

    My Interpretation

After carefully analyzing this song, my friend and I have come to three vague explanations of this song. Hopefully this will help you to understand what we believe is the meaning/meanings of this song.

So to start, the first verse:

"When the parallel spiral unravelled Before the firm grasp of my abominable Came my birth in the well of the wretched"

This is describing a person who feels that they have finally seen the truth about the world of humanity, the sorrowful world of humanity, and is soon to grasp hatred.

The "final jest" being the last joke has pushed this person beyond their limits. This person claims their "Non-Sylph" self has spread down. A Sylph is a invisible mythological creature of the air. therefore he is not invisible and his evil is exposed, and due to the "hideous carnival grotto"(human society) he is able to cover his "Viperean mask" or his true intentions

thanks to devinxdisaster this next verse we found The "inversion of the lens", "strange shape", and "capacity of the last-born child", was describing the backwards and immature perspective of society we live in.

We can't quite figure out this line

"The grand fork silence Arising for the anchor's cell"

but yet again devinxdisaster saves us, this weird line is explaining that he was shown disaster, many places destroyed, and his evil was shown as ugly girls, in gemstones.

A "maelstrom of villains" being where villains rest, and are ignorant of the "Bazzar of virtue", or market of values.

"Denaturation of the ork by the Zirconyum" meaning the change of a evil creature like the ork was due to Zirconyum, a Element used to carve Gemstones, as mentioned earlier, the metaphor, "Capturing my evil as ugly girls In multiples of gemstones"

"A grinch in the night wearing its crystals eternally" now that the Gemstones that hold this evil have been sharped by the Zirconyum and the ork must carry this evil for eternity.

"A dispirited lunatic passage Broken by the traitors... By this pernicious soothing"

This explains a gloomy passage broken by traitors. The lunatics are due to the pernicious soothing, pernicious meaning to harm, so we suspect this soothing was self infliction by the people within the passage to deal with what the traitors have done.

"A mistake followed itself in the decisive cryptage When the telescope fell on the inverted astron The utopia was not mechanically very long And logic vanished under the illogical"

This explains a mistake that has been made for so many years it was expressed as cryptage. We assume the telescope is something that represents foreseeing and that it fell or was taken away. As we saw earlier the line "When the parallel spiral unravelled" might have meant the seeing of truth. this person thought he had seen the truth but when he was wrong his perfect world lasted very shortly and all his knowledge vanished.

"A frenetic impulsion influenced When escaping the human yawning chasm This globe transformed into memories"

This is showing a frantic push, while trying to escape the gaping hole humans have created, a yawning chasm in the world, when finally the world was destroyed.

"My sylph fled... After the (firm) grasp of my abominable Allowing me to wear my Viperean mask "

Finally his need of a sylph, an invisible self, left and after he had a great hatred he could finally show his true intentions.

essentially, this song is showing a chronological occurrence of a person who has gone through life faced with evil. he is afraid his true self and since has grasped evil can fit with human society easily, judging our society is very evil. when he finally notices what he thought the world was it wasn't, he tried to escape. when all of society was gone, he could wear his Viperean mask and show who he truly was with no worried on being judged.

So our three thoughts are either this song is about how society has caused some to hide their true self and try to fit in because the way you are treated it you don't. Evil is so custom to us that it becomes almost desensitized and we feel it is normal. Or it could be that humans are destroying the world as we know due to evil.

                                         Hope that helps.

This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
