Betrayal Lyrics

I don't remember much about that night
I'm pretty sure it rained the day I died
I think it rained or I think you're rain
I think it rained
I'm pretty sure it rained the day I died

you and I were always closest friends
it's women that make enimies of men
a pretty face
a pretty face
a pretty face would one day do me in

(it gets better)

Her eyes were like, her eyes were like the winter wind, she goes
Holding secrets only winter knows
and winter knows
winter knows
it's winters seen the wolves in womens clothes.

she came to me a little after noon
we held each other close the whole night through
and love was blind
love went blind
I didn't see her let you in the room

someone always wins
and then they write a book
I sing my defense thin

the gunshot was the only word you said
you left me lying
you left me lying dead
love went red
love went red
she left with you
you left me lying dead

so I watched her as you put me in the dirt
she had my wallet tucked inside her skirt
and love went blind
love went numb
I'm not dead if what you did don't hurt

I think it rained
I think it rained
I'm pretty sure it rained the day I died

I know they played this song when I saw them in Urbana in April. I believe it's a cover, but I could be wrong. I really like the song though.

I don't think it's a cover only cause I can't find the lyrics at all on the interntet, but it could be. If it is a cover, can somebody tell me who it's a cover on?

I found out that it's not actually a cover, it is a song Jon wrote with the singer from the band Nickel Creek, who Switchfoot was touring with.

Is the title actually spelled like that, or is someone a bad speller?

That's the way Switchfoot spelled it

Here is a quote from Jon when he played Betrayal for the underground lounge.

"I'm a big Johnny Cash fan and so this is kind of my nod to that. My attempt to right a good song about murder."

I believe Jon also mentioned somewhere else that this won't be on the upcoming album.

Okay. Someone on the main boards asked if this would be on the next cd. Here's Jon's reply:

" Hi tyler, How are things? I think the song you're talking about is betrayal, a song I wrote with my friend sean watkins. He's an incredible music man who plays in an amazing band called Nickle Creek. It's a song about... er, betrayal? Sadly, I don't think it's going to be on this record. We hope to find a spot for the song though. we'll see. Glad you dig it, amigo. see you manana.

I absolutely adore this song, even in the crappy live recording. But one line I just don't quite buy, 'then they write a book.' I dunno. Just seems that the line 'Someone always wins' sets up something huge and then Jon was struggling for a follow up. Unless it has some meaning that I'm not aware of that makes it make sense. If so please tell me, I hate finding flaws in songs I like. Otherwise it just doesn't quite do it for me.

for me is that when she won (by killing him) she wrote a book or something like that, so he is defending himself with a song.

I love this song, but i can't find it anywhere, can please someone tell me where I can find it so i can download it..thanks (:
