Chocolate Town Lyrics

I couldn't taste the taste that I was tastin'
I couldn't hear the waste that I was makin'
Tired of the life I was facin'

I couldn't tell one from another
I couldn't hide a secret from my mother
Any other mother wouldn't bother

Makin' time breakin' ground
Sail Brown Bay to Chocolate Town

Got me on the porch I'm in the front row
Says "shit's for real man" like I don't know
Get your punk ass back to the dog show...

Makin' time breakin' ground
Sail Brown Bay to Chocolate Town

A new breath I feel the grip releasin'
Scraping my guts off of the ceiling
I got that sunny bunny feeling

Makin' time breakin' ground
Sail Brown Bay to Chocolate Town
Makin' time breakin' ground
Sail Brown Bay to Chocolate Town
Makin' time breakin' ground
Greyhound bus to Chocolate Town...

From Dean Ween..........

It's about buying drugs in the ghetto

Cover art for Chocolate Town lyrics by Ween

NO, being about buying Drugs in the ghetto makes the most sense... the first and second verses seem to be about being so effed up that he wasn't even sure exactly what he was buying, as long as it was drugs... and his mother being one of the only ones who understand (understand as in that Gener was VERY depressed, therefore abusing drugs)

And the Chorus, "sail brown bay to chocolate town", either he's talking about going to hershey penn, or crossing the deleware (brown bay?) into new jersey, and going into the ghetto (Chocolate Town)

cause come on chocolate town? black people!

Your all wrong. This song is about Rehab. The first lines are about his drug life; he lost his sensations for life in the cloud of drug use. He was sick of his the life he was facing. But his mother, noticing his spiraling life, narked him out to the police, thus sending him to rehab (chocolate town). The song is about his improvement and escape from the serious drug addictions he had. Thats why as the song continues, it gets happier. The breakthrough occurs, and he "scrapes his guts off the ceiling", and the sunny bunny feelings of not being controlled by the substances anymore.

yea.....

i think it's about buying psychedellics off of a gentlemen in the hood.

haha..

good song

chocolate town could refer to "brown" people living in the hood?

Woah. Definitely don't think its about taking a shit. Okay. So I think its more about buying drugs from a black guy in the hood.

But I think the buyer knows that he shouldn't be buying drugs, hence all the references to his mother and not being able to keep a secret. And the overall tone of the song especially at the beginning of the song (because of the lyrics) is negative: repeating "couldn't" and "wouldn't" and insinuating he can't control what is going on. I think it is the progression of his thought process, from when he is buying the drugs, to being under the influence, you know? Like the first stanza talks about how he doesn't really know what he's doing, he's tired of the life thats wasting Then the next part talks about secrets and letting people down (the mother) Then "Makin' time breakin' ground" he just gives up and goes to chocolate town to buy drugs, and then later he talks about the "sunny bunny feeling" meaning the high, obviously.

Thats just my opinion. definitely not butt sex with his mom.

My Opinion

You and the guy below are correct. It is about buying drugs in a part of town that is predominantly black, hence calling it chocolate town. And it was a particular place, that I am not at liberty to say as I am a friend of Deaner, that is in Penn. The whole album called Quebec for a reason as well. Acadian. Put it together. This shit aint a puzzle - @ all you fecal obssessed poop people.

I saw Gener play this sober/acoustic recently, and it all kinda hit me at once how many of his songs seemed like they were about partying when he was using, now seem like they're about sobriety since he's recovered.

Verse 1 - his Mom was usually cool with it but she called him on it when it got too bad Verse 2 - his friends stage an intervention on the porch, he can't disagree Verse 3 - he's got messes to clean up but instantly feels better

It's no accident this appears on the album after "Captain," which seems to be about a low point in addiction. I know 2003 wasn't the last time Gener cleaned up but lots of things were coming to a head, divorce, band tension, etc.

The chorus IS about poop, too though. I've always seen brown as this hazy, disgusting oblivion they were seeking as Ween, but once you sober up, you're just an old fat guy taking a shit.

Butt sex

Plain and simple

Cover art for Chocolate Town lyrics by Ween

i know the song itself is pretty and you'd like to think its something nice like sex with your mother or in the ass, but it's simply about taking a shit. all signs point to it, sorry.

I was told to 'get my punk ass back to the dog show' once by a black gentleman.
