St. Elsewhere Lyrics
I packed a few of my belongings
Left the life that I was living
Just some memories of it
Mostly the ones I can't forget
Whenever you need me I'll be here
Until then my dear
I'm going, I'm going, going there
Don't ask me to make time
To travel back and forth
Let nature take its course
Maybe I'm open from all this ocean air
Mmm
And if it weren’t for you
I'd be without a care
Setting sail to St Elsewhere
(Ooh hum hum, ooh hum hum)
Anywhere you sit you can see the sun
Unfortunately on this island I'm the only one
Same rules apply on a rainy day
And not such a pretty place to be
It just rains and rains and rains on me
Yeah
Send a simple sign I can understand
Then a flower grew out that sand
Before you know it I was back out on that sea
Now I don't mind it so much because as long
as I'm not there
Anywhere St Elsewhere
(Ooh hum hum, ooh hum hum)
Way over yonder there's a new frontier
Would it be so hard for you
To come and visit me here
I understand
Well just send me a message
In a bottle then baby
(Ooh hum hum, ooh hum hum)
(Ooh hum hum)
(She’s a loser)
Left the life that I was living
Just some memories of it
Mostly the ones I can't forget
Until then my dear
I'm going, I'm going, going there
Don't ask me to make time
To travel back and forth
Let nature take its course
Maybe I'm open from all this ocean air
Mmm
And if it weren’t for you

i wish i could figure this song out
i love it
its about a girl who loved him tossed him to the curb and then wanted him back. simple as that
i love this song this song has to be about how his ex kept playing with his emotions like kept getting back with him the dumping and repeating the process you i know the feeling!!
first of all the last line isn't she's a loser, it's she's st. elsewhere. to me it means he's still in love with his girlfriend but wants his freedom and needs some time away from her and he's conflicted between his feelings. on a more obscure level st. elsewhere is about never being happy with where you are, and always believing true happiness can be found somewhere else. i think that's what it means because the name "saint elsewhere" evokes a heavenly tone. like...the heaven that is anywhere but here.
St. Elsewhere is a play on words. Cee-lo seems ot be a Christian, St. Elsewhere is a reference to the world the saints, or Christians, live. It always rains because we are surrounded by temptation and the general ungodliness of thsi world. Packed up his belongings, he left his material posessions behind for a better, spiritual, inheritance.
get it? Saint....Elsewhere
The Bible tells us to be in the world but not of the world, this is what Cee-lo is talkin bout.
Nice idea, Locheim, but you're wrong. St Elsewhere is the name of a mental institute. The song, as far as I can make out, is a mellow look at the themes of depression, schizophrenia and madness throughout the album. It looks (to me) like he's singing about leaving this world for his own, make-believe world in his head, as he can't cope with the pressures on him in this world. If people need him, he'll be there for them, but until then, he'll be in his make-believe world. And the asylum reference shows the actual truth - he's going insane.
Actually, a quick googling reveals that I'M wrong. St Elsewhere was a hospital series, and at the end it was revealed that the whole thing was the imagination of an autistic kid. Most of my points still stand, though.
Cee-lo and Dangermouse have both said in interviews that St. Elsewhere is just a conceptual idea of a place that is better than your current state. So it has nothing to do with a mental institution, or Christianity. This is a really good song though, and I think it can apply to more than just a girl, seems like it could be applied to many of life's problems.
You can't really say it has nothing to do with it, those two ideas are at their core, the same. Basically going to a purer, happier place. Which is, incidentally, what you say is the meaning of it. ;]
