Talking In Code Lyrics
I gotta go and you're talking in code,
saying I know where you've been,
And I know where you go.
But I've been tired
from the minute I woke,
I stopped listening
the moment you spoke,
And said I'm long gone.
Yeah I'm long gone....
And I'm sleeping alone,
In a house I don't own,
'Cause if you're touring your mind,
You'll get lost everytime.
And you'll sing me sad songs
to keep me awake,
in that bedroom we hid away.
Baby I'm long gone,
Yeah I'm long gone....
And your voice cracks like a piano,
You keep moving
but where are you going.
Baby we're long gone,
Yeah we're long gone....
saying I know where you've been,
And I know where you go.
from the minute I woke,
I stopped listening
the moment you spoke,
And said I'm long gone.
Yeah I'm long gone....
In a house I don't own,
'Cause if you're touring your mind,
You'll get lost everytime.
to keep me awake,
in that bedroom we hid away.
Baby I'm long gone,
Yeah I'm long gone....
You keep moving
but where are you going.
Baby we're long gone,
Yeah we're long gone....

this is their best song, by far. so much talent in the music and lyrics. And I can relate to every line.
two lovers drifting apart from each other... they ask each other, "where are you/we going?" and finally realize that their relationship is "long gone."
i think the saddest part is when he sings, "you keep moving, but where are you going?" it's not that the people in the relationship are stagnant... it's the relationship itself that's dead and unmoving.
this song is absolutely beautiful. There is amazing emotion in his voice. It really brings the whole song together.
For some reason the line "Your voice cracks like a piano" is one of the sweetest, nicest lyrics I've ever heard. Its so simple but its just so poignant to the tone....
Brian
I just have to chime in and support the line "And I'm sleeping alone, in a house I don't own" as well. The slight strain in his voice in the words "sleeping" and "house" get me every time. And the simple sentiment of the line is so recognizable and quietly painful.

I absolutely agree with the kid above me. That line gets me every time. It sort of captures a sort of aching agony that's just enhanced by the way he delivers it.
And I also like what miki said. I love the "You keep moving" part, as well. Overall it's a great song. I'm a fan of their slower stuff.
"And your voice cracks like a piano, You keep moving, but where are you going?"
I adore this song.
I picture a very sad slowdance when I listen to this.

Just kidding, no I do not.
this song hits me every time.
especially "And your voice cracks like a piano, You keep moving but where are you going. Baby we're long gone, Yeah we're long gone...."
that entire verse is the peak of the song for me.
