My ammunition won't load into my gun
My inhibitions, they fall like the weight from a stone
You lead my heart away like a homeless, dusted fool
Somehow this dime store ring still shines like a diamond to you
Oh, how it deepens
Oh, how it deepens
Your mystery
Keeps on turnin' me on
Your mystery
Thought I knew the rules, thought I held it in my hand
Thought I was bulletproof till the blood pooled up in the sand
Are you a satellite, a shooting star or a dove?
Did we put you way up there or did God send you down from above?
Oh, how it deepens
Oh, how it deepens
Your mystery
Keeps on turnin' me on
Your mystery
Burns me up like the sun
Your mystery
Mine eyes have seen the glory of a love that does transcend
Mine eyes have seen the worst inside of man
And fear is like a fallen bridge broken from an edge
And the proof is in the bloodshot eyes of the one who failed to see
My inhibitions, they fall like the weight from a stone
You lead my heart away like a homeless, dusted fool
Somehow this dime store ring still shines like a diamond to you
Oh, how it deepens
Keeps on turnin' me on
Your mystery
Thought I was bulletproof till the blood pooled up in the sand
Are you a satellite, a shooting star or a dove?

Arg! Why did they let their new album out overseas, then a month later in Canada, and then another month later for the US? They came from here! Bakadon....I want to listen to Songs from Black Mountain!
I love the lyric "Somehow this dime store ring still shines like a diamond to you." It reminds me of how worthless we are, but God still thinks the world of us...yeah. This whole song seems to be about God's mystery. Ed still doesn't understand, and he is amazed the more he analyzes God's character and such. So that's my take.
Eyecon ... What can I say. You really need to read more carefully IMHO. Anywayz: It's obviously a love song, the character seems to have been "love-proof", not caring about the women next to him:
"Thought I knew the rules, thought I held it in my hand Thought I was bulletproof"
... and then boom! He meets this perfect lady and he's hopeless
"Did we put you way up there or did God send you down from above?"
he falls in love but he refuses to acknowledge it and turns her down, then after some time he realises his foolishnes
"And the proof is in the bloodshot eyes of the one who failed to see"
Ups, no! Now I understand (It's because I'm not native-english I guess) - he failed to see that he is in love, we can't actually say that he turned her down. Sorry!
While I agree that this song is about Ed,s failure to see love right in front of him, I believe he is more entranced by the fact that God provided human beings with the ability to give and receive such a beautiful gift.
