This interlude in the album describes EVERYTHING that is wrong with hip hop today.
Youngsters grow up aspiring to be these rich, pimped out, soulless, materialistic, celebrities...surrounded by wealth and slutty girls who want their money, instead of wanting to get into hip hop because they love music.
De La Soul arrived at a time in Hip Hop when they slowly saw this going on around them and saw groups and individuals they once looked up to selling out and just wanting money and fame and bitches instead of wanting to send out a positive message and just make an impact on music that would last for generations instead of just trying to get a quick buck.
You can still get fame and wealth and not flaunt it like a status symbol. De La is amazing and has always stayed true.
Most modern rappers today just see rap (i say rap because there is a difference between true hip hop and 'rap') as a way to become rich and attract ladies instead of a way to express yourself and make a positive impact on their listeners.
All praise De La Soul and all those in the hip hop world that still remember when hip how was about fun, community, respect, and just kickin it mad niggerish.
You just said it my man, REAL art lasts forever!
