Take Me Back Lyrics
There's no point in doin' what I've done
Lives are goddamned ruined like the runts
Take me back to the weather
Bend the tracks wish forever
Take me back for I go down there no more
Chew us up and spit us out again
Wavin' bye and getting high on trends
Take me back to the weather
Bend the tracks and wish forever
Take me back for I go down there no more
Well the road is long
But I know I can survive
Been away so long
Anyway I saw what I could find
Lives are goddamned ruined like the runts
Bend the tracks wish forever
Take me back for I go down there no more
Wavin' bye and getting high on trends
Bend the tracks and wish forever
Take me back for I go down there no more
But I know I can survive
Been away so long
Anyway I saw what I could find

This is the best song on the whole album i reckon, it has this really smooth country vibe that takes you away to the clouds, sunset and feelings of nostalgia.
I think its about how everything has changed craigs life by the media,he has been through so much, mostly hardship and he just wants to go back to where he started, where everything is pure and peaceful like the weather, before he descends into greater struggles.
I agree, the best slow song on the cd , and its up there in the entire career, amnesia is pretty cool too. I listened to it over and over and I keep on finding new good things about it, indeed a country feeling, but like country meets the 60's vocals into Craig's hot voice. The Vines is one of my truly favorite bands because of songs like this.
I LOVE this song more & more the more i listen to it. I love the fact that the psychedelic rockers The Vines made a gorgeous country-type ballad that even has a quasi-spanish riff thrown in perfectly. I love this guy's voice. Simple words, lovely voice.
can somebody please tell me what he means by "lives are god-damned ruined like the runts"? sounds to me like some aussie slang
i'm starting to think he's saying "runs" lol
Craig Nicholls is not getting high on "trends". He's getting high on TRIMS. As in, marijuana trims (the shake, the excess).
Also, I agree that line 2 is: "Lives are goddamned ruined like the RUNS". A vocal run is a series of notes sung by a singer, high and low on the scale in quick succession. Craig is famous for his falsetto (his ability to use a high singing voice). Perhaps here, he fears he has ruined his singing voice, along with a few lives.
For the final line, I'd also like to submit that he could be saying: "Anyway, I SOLD what I could find".
Overall, this song is about Craig's desire to be "taken back" to simpler days, before his dreams came true... and got ruined.
