Typical Lyrics

Come on, can I dream for one day?
There's nothing that can't be done
But how long should it take somebody
Before they can be someone

Cuz I know there's got to be another level
Somewhere closer to the other side
And I'm feelin' like it's now or never
Can I break the spell of the typical?

Now I've lived through my share of misfortune
And I've worked in the blazing sun
But how long should it take somebody
Before they can be someone

Cuz I know there's got to be another level
Somewhere closer to the other side
And I'm feelin' like it's now or never
Can I break the spell of the typical?

I'm the typical
I'm the typical
Can I break the spell of the typical?

Because it's draggin' me down
Oh, I'd like to know about when
When does it all turn around?

Yeah I know there's got to be another level
Somewhere closer to the other side
And I'm feelin' like it's now or never
Can I break the spell of the typical?

Break the spell (of the typical)
Break the spell (of the typical)
Can I break the spell of the typical?

Just because the band is catholic doesn't mean that the songs are. That's oversimplification. This isn't a religious song. I don't see any ties to jesus or god in those lyrics. I see a fight against conformity (break the spell of the typical/because it's dragging me down). I think that seeing god there is just projection of one's own faith into something that has no religious ties.

you say: " I see a fight against conformity " it's the life teaching+living by jesus. No surprise to hear about in disciples songs.

maybe the "oversimplification" is to say: religious is when it say "jesusjesusjesus"

Why is it that it always seems like an argument between religious and secular music? Like a band of Christians like Mute Math (or even Mae) aren't ever allowed to sing about secular things; or a secular band like U2 never allowed to sing about God. It's quite ludicrous.

Moreover, a song is a piece of art, so you're going to have your own interpretations...there's no wrong or right answer. While there's the artist's personal intentions, as soon as the art is released, the meaning lies in perception. That's art.

Enough about the squabbles.

I just love how this song promotes living a better life on your own terms. You could argue it's a song about Christian morality...but most religions preach higher living. I'd say this song is more about strong personal morals.

I just heard this song and I think I've found a new band to fall in love with.

What this song says to me is just that sometimes it's good to deviate from the norm or status quo. Don't do what's expected. A great message. Be different kids!

I think it's about God... or Heaven. Or maybe individuality.
