Penholder Lyrics

I feel your eyes crawling over me
As though I am something more than me
But I don't have anything good enough to say
I did not make myself this way

I'll show you what he did,
But I won't take the credit
It's not mine anyway
I just held the pen that day

And I don't deserve this
This time right now
It's not something for which I can take the bow
And I don't deserve this

It wasn't me
I can't take glory for something that I can't be
I don't deserve this

I know what perfection is like
And I cannot stand before its might
And I'm so far from what you think that I must be
I just drown myself in mercy

And all the art that I supposedly create
Is simply a faded reflection of something He's already made

I think this song means that she feels guilty taking the credit for writing her songs, because it's really God that creates through her...she just holds the pen.

She feels like she doesn't deserve all the praise and recognition she gets, because it's not her that does it, it's God

I think Lacey wrote this song, because she wants to show her appreciation for God. She gives him all the credit for her beautiful lyrics and doesn't want to take the glory away from God. Anything that she writes was originally said by God, so she gives him all the credit. She can't accept the praise for writing these songs, because they weren't possible without God.

Exactly.

rape makes no sense with this song. when she says your eyes crawling all over me as though I am something more than me, that's the people/fans who admire her. that all the art she creates is through major inspiration from her faith. she's basically saying 'I don't deserve the credit you're giving me, God does'

okay...you guys that think this song is about rape i can see that side of it in some parts... but you arent taking the song in as a whole... The song is about her music and how it wasnt her that wrote them.. hello?! the song is called PENholder that means shes writing something... and the line "And all the art that I supposedly create Is simply a faded reflection of something He's already made" Its talking about art- her music... and if you look it says He. Big H that means the ultimate He-God not just some boy... just sayong

Penholder is about how all of Lacey's fans adore her, and their eyes "crawl over her" in admiration. However, she doesn't think she deserves all the credit and adoration, because it was God who inspired her to write the songs, and she was just the penholder for Him.

I must say, however, that Lacey does deserve the attention and adoration.=) I love Lacey Mosley!!! Awesome singer, awesome band...yeah!

i hink when she wrote this, she meant her songs may be beautifully written but they are only that way because of what he made her feel so really its him and what he did that actually wrote the song, she just held the pen.

Absolutely ^-^. When I read christian music I just cant figure out how they do it...and when I look at secular music its all repetative. THeres something about Christian music that keeps me being a Christian... theres something more to it. So much so that only God himself could have written it. God, you're awesome

awesome song. I agree with tourniquet_fauns

Just because Flyleaf is a christian band, doesn't mean that every single one of their songs is about God. I agree with Sercerteyes. Maybe this song is about something other than God, I write songs, and I'm christain, but my songs aren't about God. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I just don't think you should assume every song she writes is about God.

Not all of her songs are about God, so why do you get all worked up about it when someone says ONE of them are? So if you're christian/catholic whatever. You're saying the exact thing in the opposite direction. So what if it is about God? Must you belittle it for that reason? This is a beautiful song and anyone can take it in any way so don't criticize just because someone sees it in a Christian viewpoint. If you are a Christian you should be showing people the Love of Christ, not putting things down that show that love....
