Self Helpless Lyrics
In the time it took to pack and leave he could
Have come to terms with his disease but he filled his house with gasoline
And held the match for everyone to see he cried out to the gathered crowd
Look at what you've done i hope you're proud you have made a fool of me
When all i've ever tried to do is please all of and never me
Time it moves so slow, we're growing old
But are we really growing up
Things we can't let go wrap around our throats
Until there's nothing left to do but choke
He thought he found the perfect place a little town to bury his mistakes
But when he finally settled in the songs about his life began to spin
As he heard the broken verse the truth about himself came out and burned
His panicked heart's a starting gun, he hears the beat and feels the need to run
To anywhere to anyone
Time it moves so slow when you're futures unknown
When what you want is what you had
Friends they come and go but you're always alone
After all that is what you're owed
My friend don't you know you're making it harder now
Than it needs to be just settle down
As you lie in your bed and try an relax
With you favorite dream it will work out
And your family is there we all got your back
And they all look so pleased just try and relax
Have come to terms with his disease but he filled his house with gasoline
And held the match for everyone to see he cried out to the gathered crowd

I don't know many people that like this song as much as I do...but that doesn't mean it isn't great. It is very catchy for some reason. Even though the whole meaning eludes me I still enjoy listening to this song, for the lyrics as well as the simple, memorable tune.
I think it's about someone who always does everything to make everyone else happy and doesn't think about what makes them happy enough. I think it's about what happens when you do that... you become nothing and want to die/kill yourself.
About someone who has a disease, probably a serious STD
He thought he found the perfect place a little town to bury his mistakes
-has trouble facing what has happened to him, as there seems to be regret.
But when he finally settled in the songs about his life began to spin As he heard the broken verse the truth about himself came out and burned
-Can't seem to get a grip on himself
Things we can't let go wrap around our throats Until there's nothing left to do but choke
His panicked heart's a starting gun, he hears the beat and feels the need to run To anywhere to anyone
Time it moves so slow when you're futures unknown
When what you want is what you had
The last verse is his dear friend trying to stop him from letting this disease take over his life. Tells him to relax and that himself and his family are there for him and they're willing to overlook the mishap.
this is nothing to do with an STD. try bipolar disorder lol.

I think it's about addiction and trying a geographic escape, but realizing that addiction will follow him everywhere he goes.
That's what I get out of it at least. Who knows what the singer actually meant. Maybe he just meant to make a ton of cash.
