Shallow Lyrics

You're watching the cars, movies and stars
They are your lifetime...
Yet all that I am is half what we are
Maybe some other time
I'll get it right
I'll get it right

Oh sweet voice on the phone
You sound so alone
'Cause you couldn't be wasted
Yet all that I ever was
To you I am
I'm less than a man

That slowly changes out of phase
And I don't know why it is
Its an ever changing simple thing that I miss...

While watching TV take in what you say
So you're death is painless
When all that I ever was returns again
I'm all that I am

And I'll get it right
When I get it right
'Cause I'll get it right
When I get it right

But I'm slowly changing out of phase
And I don't know why it is
It's an ever-changing simple thing that I know
But don't know why it is
That I'm longing for a sweet embrace, which I miss

This song seems to describe a man whose love left him because he wasn't good enough for her. She seems to be more interested in glamour ("watching cars, movies, stars"). He feels incomplete without her ("all that I am is half what we are").

The tone of the music shows that the narrator still holds hope for his future with her. He thinks that eventually, he'll "get it right" and they can be together again. It's like he's describing a relationship that has splits over petty things that he feels he can fix.

I enjoy the harmonies and peaceful sound of this song. It illustrates that he's certain that eventually everything will be fine.

The title of this song should speak for itself. It is about people who obsess over beauty and possessions rather than love and kindness. The underline message is that shallow people tend to step way outside the reality box and one day finally realize that all the glamour there attracted to, isn't as common as they thought.

This song and their new one "house of cards" are extreamly similar, both I believe are about a girl that now could care less about the singer no matter how much he loves her. Both are fairly sad songs when you look at the lyrics, but the sound of both of them is amazing.

my opinion on this is that its about a relationship that he was in. He's with this woman who is materialistic and he is not. He wants to be with her, but she thinks shes not going to get ahead in life with him. So she leaves him. the rest of the song i think he is saying that he would change for her if he could? he repeats over and over that he'll get it right, so maybe he wants to give her all the things she wants but just isn't able to, but for if he could he'd give her the world?
