The Mountain Lyrics
We took fifteen steps
But fifteen wrong
Through packs of wolves
And wild dogs
Wait,
We’ve been told to
Our house turns to rust
And power is lost
Your hands are clean
But these diamonds are soft
Wait,
We’ve been told to
The hammers were quiet
Nailing me to the wall
I’ve been hanging here
All nightlong
We’ve been here before
We’ll be there again
The blood on my hands, hanging
Over my head
The Mountain
Catches fire and melts the snow
Now the river
Carries us home
But fifteen wrong
Through packs of wolves
And wild dogs
Wait,
We’ve been told to
And power is lost
Your hands are clean
But these diamonds are soft
Wait,
We’ve been told to
Nailing me to the wall
I’ve been hanging here
All nightlong
We’ll be there again
The blood on my hands, hanging
Over my head
Catches fire and melts the snow
Now the river
Carries us home

this album sucks
bruce springsteen, anyone?
fucking good song, though.
without feathers is class!
i'm sorry moho, but this album is amazing. please don't judge it in comparison to the first album. the whole band changed members, so this version of the stills is completely different than the previous album's.
As usual with the Stills, this song is extremely depressing. But they decided that they would do this album happy, while still being really sad haha. i think the meaning of this song is that he was lied to and betrayed. What he once thought was his safe place (house) has been torn down. What he thought was precious to him (soft diamonds) is now worthless. So no he feels like he's being crucified (hanging all night long).
THE BEST part in this song are the last lines. He (the mountain) gets angry (catches fire) at the whole situation, but eventually his anger turns to sadness and he cries (melts the snow). So he goes home crying (river carries us home).
Listen close, at the end, he laughs sarcastically, brushing off his sadness like we all tend to do sometimes (we've been here before, we'll be there again)
i love this song.
both albums are amazing, in my opinion
