A man who messed up this relationship many times and eventually the woman he loves walks out on him and he desperately wants her back after realizes the mistakes he made.
It's hard to say which is my favorite song by Paul Young, it's a toss up between this and Love of the Common People. The guy had such a great voice I'm surprised he didn't become more bigger then he was on the music scene. I was able to relate to this song much more though of the two.
It's not that I have the right to tell you which one of the two songs is better or which one of the two you should like the most, but since this is a site for interpretation and/or sharing of personal experiences which serve to give meaning to a song, it would have been useful that you told us why do you relate more to "Come Back and Stay".
