Elevate Myself Lyrics
I don't wanna work all night and day
On writing songs that make the young girls cry
Or playing little solos on the keyboard
So the kids will ask me how and why
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna elevate myself
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna elevate myself
And maybe for a little
Get to where I find it really hard to hate myself
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna elevate myself
I don't wanna stare at stacks of paper all the while
While the world goes by
Tradin' out the weather for a clever lyric
Written by an Ikea light
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna elevate myself
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna elevate myself
And maybe for a little
Get to where I find it really hard to hate myself
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna get up off the shelf
And elevate myself
I don't wanna be a part of all the quality that falls apart these days
I'd rather make an honest sound
And watch it fly around
And then be on my way
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna elevate myself
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna elevate myself
And maybe for a little
Get to where I find it really hard to hate myself
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna elevate myself
On writing songs that make the young girls cry
Or playing little solos on the keyboard
So the kids will ask me how and why
I just wanna elevate myself
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna elevate myself
Get to where I find it really hard to hate myself
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna elevate myself
While the world goes by
Tradin' out the weather for a clever lyric
Written by an Ikea light
I just wanna elevate myself
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna elevate myself
Get to where I find it really hard to hate myself
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna get up off the shelf
And elevate myself
I'd rather make an honest sound
And watch it fly around
And then be on my way
I just wanna elevate myself
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna elevate myself
Get to where I find it really hard to hate myself
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna elevate myself

i agree with hulelam
This is a good song about writing songs.
poor ol' Jason Lytle got sick of writing songs, and doing all this hard work to make WONDERFUL music that we all love to see no decent rewards come out of it, thus the band is alll done, and i am sad. he wants to "elevate himself" move up, and beyond the little pit he was stuck in while in grandaddy. :(

I think this song is about elevating himself out of his current position in life. Perhaps he wants stardom. He wants to rise up from being an obscure indie rock band and be known.
It's about why he writes songs. It's not for stardom or fame. It's not to keep busy. He does it because he loves music. Making an honest sound is what he does to elevate himself and if it's not honest, he'll be on his way and do something else with his life.
He's talking about writing because he wants to, not because he wants to seem cool or move people. And he doesn't want to waste his life writing songs either, he'd much rather go outside and have a good time then spend all his time writing clever lyrics.
I'm pretty sure he's basically saying that he's okay with what's going on because He's doing what HE wants to...and not relying on other people to make him feel good.
He is doing this music stuff because he wants to be doing it. He doesn't want to be classified with all the shitty one-hit-wonders. Sometimes it sucks...but...
He's doing what he should be doing with his life..and he feels good about it.
when i first heard this song i thought right away it was about getting high but it didnt really make sense after reading the lyircs over i def agree with what everyones saying that he wants to 'elevate'- if you will - his music
well I agree with all that stuffabout moving to something else, but I think he's also talking about simple but great music,to make music that satisfies himself, and elevates him, as you may agree music is a wonderful drug, it can make you fly high, but he also says his music is just for him and whoever wants to enjoy it, he doesn't make music to sell, "to make the young girls cry" like backstreet boys or something, he just makes music for the pleasure music brings and to "get to where I find it really hard to hate myself", where you feel so good listening to music that you forget everything else, and you forget your problems. Great band, too bad they had to split, is hard to make relly good music this days and succed, companies won't allow you unless you sell yourself.
