This Heaven Lyrics

All the pieces fall into place
When we walk these fields
And I reach out and touch your face
This earthly heaven is enough for me

So break the bread and pour the wine
I need no blessings but I'm counting mine
Life is much more than money buys
When I see the faith in my children's eyes

I've felt the power in a holy place
And wished for comfort when in need
Now I'm here in a state of grace
This earthly heaven is enough for me

So break the bread and pour the wine
I need no blessings but I'm counting mine
Life is much more than money buys
When I see the faith in my children's eyes

Well, there's earthly and heavenly. I don't know too much about David Gilmour, but, this sounds like he's satisfied with some type of "Spirtual" feeling. This earthly heaven is enough for me, if that means earth as heaven, then, that sounds good to me. I think he's saying, life, family, and this earth is heaven, and it's enough for him.

@banedraven I do know Gilmours an atheist, so its his acceptance of this life and this song is telling us to make the most of life because its all we get

I think it has something to do with his atheism; he feels he does not need a "heaven" when he believes that this "earthly heaven" is enough for him.

Yes, I think this has everything to do with athiesm. Earthly Heaven is all one can really hope for. It is enough. I think that David has achieved a great deal. His guitar playing and singing are so wonderful. I hope that he is satisfied.

Actually the man did say in Sunday Telegraph that it's about atheism. Something about "accepting his mortality". The song in itself is indeed rather vague though.

From Newsday, published March 30, 2006: "I'm an atheist, and I don't have any belief in an afterlife..."

"The theme of the new album - those Pink Floyd habits die hard - is mortality. One song, 'This Heaven', reflects Gilmour's atheism. 'There is an element of contended resignation in that song. It extols the virtues of living in the moment and accepting your mortality. Perhaps the closest I will get to immortality will be through Dark Side of the Moon. I think that record will go on being played for a while yet.' " Nigel Farndale interviewing Gilmour, 'Still on the dark side', The Sunday Telegraph (London), May 28, 2006, Section Seven, Pg. 8.

Accordingly, David Gilmour is an Atheist and that's partly what "This Heaven" reflects, apparently.

I have more questions with his new song The Piper's Call because "The Road To Hell is paved with gold, they'll tell you" and the way he says it, it's kinda where he's really saying it's not.

My Interpretation

Pretty clear, he loves his kids :)

Definitely about appreciating the one life we get and living it to the fullest. Gilmour is an outspoken atheist. The brilliance of this song is the religious imagery to make a point about atheism

Song Meaning

its about being content, plain and simple,an atthist would not refer to a holy place and surly would not admitt to feeling a power there.god bless and rock on.

@fitius Gilmour is an outspoken atheist

You can listen to this song and think about atheism if you wish to, but the song is ABOUT his love for his kids, I don't see how you could say it's ABOUT atheism.

@mikemac Its about accepting morality and knowing youre going to die and your children will live on. Gilmour is an outspoken atheist.
