You Needed Me Lyrics
I cried a tear, you wiped it dry
I was confused, you cleared my mind
I sold my soul, you bought it back for me
And held me up and gave me dignity
Somehow you needed me
You gave me strength to stand alone again
To face the world out on my own again
You put me high upon a pedestal
So high that I could almost see eternity
You needed me, you needed me
And I can't believe it's you
I can't believe it's true
I needed you and you were there
And I'll never leave, why should I leave?
I'd be a fool 'cause I finally found someone who really cares
You held my hand when it was cold
When I was lost you took me home
You gave me hope when I was at the end
And turned my lies back into truth again
You even called me "friend"
You gave me strength to stand alone again
To face the world out on my own again
You put me high upon a pedestal
So high that I could almost see eternity
You needed me, you needed me
You needed me, you needed me
I was confused, you cleared my mind
I sold my soul, you bought it back for me
And held me up and gave me dignity
Somehow you needed me
To face the world out on my own again
You put me high upon a pedestal
So high that I could almost see eternity
You needed me, you needed me
I can't believe it's true
I needed you and you were there
And I'll never leave, why should I leave?
I'd be a fool 'cause I finally found someone who really cares
When I was lost you took me home
You gave me hope when I was at the end
And turned my lies back into truth again
You even called me "friend"
To face the world out on my own again
You put me high upon a pedestal
So high that I could almost see eternity
You needed me, you needed me

This song rocks me to the very core of my balls.
This is genius in that it can be viewed from so very many meanings, be it romantic, spiritual or parental. The thing I find most intriguing is how the lyricist describes his/her dependance on this person yet claims that this person is the one ho had the need! Great, thought provoking song!
Just my little five cents. I am searching for hope and faith and while I was going through scripture this song popped in my head. For me, this song gives me hope because He (Christ) needs me and values me. Confirming that He is a friend indeed and cares. It touches emotions unexplained deep inside.
I used to think this song was about a romantic relationship... but now I think it is about a relationship with God...
I was confused, you cleared my mind -- God provides clarity and perspective I sold my soul, you bought it back for me -- Referring to the price that Jesus paid for sins
You put me high upon a pedestal So high that I could almost see eternity -- Heaven maybe? Eternal life?
When I was lost you took me home -- similar to the line from Amazing Grace "was lost, but now I'm found" You gave me hope when I was at the end -- God is hope And turned my lies back into truth again -- Forgiveness of sin You even called me "friend" -- Friend is not a romantic term, but reminds me of the hymn "what a friend we have in Jesus"
I am not sure what the original intent of the song was, but there are so many parallels to hymns and it just doesn't seem to fit a romantic relationship
It's very clear what this song means, it isn't a romantic love song, it isn't a religious song and it isn't about a list and found love. It's actually a lot sweeter than all that.
Allow me to explain...
The song changes as it goes. At first it sounds like a love song, then it sounds like a religious song and then it sounds like a relationship between a parent.
If anything, that last one is the closest to the meaning. It's the relationship between a mother and a child. Yes it's probably different to every listner but there is no doubt in my mind that this is what it is about.
A mother guiding their child through life and then right at the end of it all when the mother passes, the child (now an adult) has now acknowledged all of this and is thanking the mother for everything.
You needed me its a song that goes into my soul its have a different meaning for me its goes like i needed that special person that i meet in my life by accident and we share our secrets our life,s but we don,t belong to each other we use to sing this song together in a party last summer of 2014 and we both know we needed its other but the time not permit us ,,,,
