This song is pretty cryptic, but I think the basis is that Matisyahu feels lucky to be alive because of all the crazy shit he used to get into when he was young. Now he's on the other side, is looking back, and giving advice to those still caught up in self-destructive ways. I believe there are also themes of integrity, humility, and karma/do unto others/golden rule, pick your flavor. I think there are also some literal references to his career. That's all!
i can really identify with this song, which is probably why i listen to it all the time. i dont think you necessarily have to view it as finding god, though that would the case for him. i think its about learning from your actions and experiences in order to become a better person in this world.

His lines are making my mind work overtime. Some of this song is cryptical (and I'm glad). Like the part whrere he says "Death brings life into uncertain things" I take that to mean maybe someone is alive and they dont beleive in God and their spark is gone (maybe a Grandpa that lost his wife and has nothing to live for)...then he dies and finds everyone he loves and feels great again and has purpose restored. just a thought...
You can't have purpose restored unless you restore it yourself. No one will be a safety net for you. If you fall, you have to get up. Rarely will a helping hand show through the darkness that is life.
This songs lyrics, really go with the intermental music attached, i can realte to this song in times of mental ilness suffering, and times of getting really baked, but in the end the lyrics refer to a transfer from a miserable/dangerous type of living, to a life of being awake, he can really reach out to any one with this song, not dissing drugs, nor indorcing, though you can tell he talks about some stoner experinces or memories in it, it took me a while to decode this song, my result is it has a meening to him, but he wants the listener to relate to it in his own way, It takes a poetic genius to write something like this
