Paper Dolls Lyrics
I am lining up my heroes
like big paper dolls
and I find
they need a wall behind them
to lean on
no, they won't stand up by themselves
at all
oh, I guess it's time to grow up
now
like big paper dolls
and I find
they need a wall behind them
to lean on
no, they won't stand up by themselves
at all
oh, I guess it's time to grow up
now

Going out on a limb here… I suspect that this song is born from a quite young Karen going into some famous LA recording studios and seeing some amazing musicians (heroes) on those walls. She’s likely realizing that those stars have a lot of “walls to lean on” that help them stand up (record company personnel, engineers and producers). Time to grow up and get to work. What an insightful and beautiful short song to kick off a debut album! At least that’s my interpretation.
