I'm not sure but I think this song is about a kid getting into drugs to fit in with a certain group of people. He changed himself and got involved with these drugs and now he's face to face with himself and he can see how torn up and fake his life is.
If you have the argue with a tree cd then you know that this song is about blue october getting dropped by their record label and then resigned.

DISCLAIMER I have just obtained a copy of Justin Furstenfeld's book Crazy Making.
