A Quiet Mind Lyrics

A slow strangle with feet on the floor
I've got 14 angels and we're sleeping alone
In the back of a cave, where the rest of us go
To feel normal

I call baby up. Leave me alone.
I'm in pain but I won't let you band-aid the wound
I'm mad at a stage where I can't even handle my own

Give me a quiet mind and I...
I love you
You give me a quiet mind and I...
I love you
Until the end

Give me strength to be kind... To combine
All the good things in life that were so hard to find

But I have and I won't let them go like I do with my friends

Still bearing voices... From front... From behind
They're the reasons I choose... When to live... How to die
When to cast... When to reel
When to buy... When to steal
When to fiend for the friends that taught me
Being inappropriate will

Give me a quiet mind and I...
I love you
You give me a quiet mind and I...
I love you
Till the end

i love this song...and as for meaning...well he is schizophrenic, so knowing this i see it as it is loud inside his mind a lot of the time, but one person is able to make it quiet for him. this is why i love this song because my lady says i do this for her.

hes not schizophrenic hes bipolar

I don't agree. I hope they never go mainstream. Let them remain obscure and wonderful. not known and overplayed crap. Awesome song and band.

I agree. Obscurity is probably best for Blue October. Love blue October!!!!!

I agree as well. The radio way overplayed "Hate Me". I don't want them to overplay any of their other songs. I don't want to get tired of them EVER.

I love the band, but I disagree with the idea that a band can't be popular and good. Even if their music would be overplayed, it would not make their music crappy.

Other than Hate Me, this was the first song I heard by Blue October. I fell IN LOVE with this song, it reminded me of so many people I pushed away in my life.

I think it's about isolation and someone just wanting to be by themselves. Wanting to find themselves, but still holding on to one sole person for the fact of being scared to be completely alone

he's not schizo, he's bi-polar! there's a difference!!! anyway it's an amazing song. i think it's about finally letting this one person in, or at least trying to. really beautiful.

He's both. He's said so. A lot of times bipolar brings schizo. How do I know? I'm bipolar.

Many of us are both. We just aren't necessarily all the time. But bipolar makes you feel so alone that you want to isolate because it's so damn loud in our heads and it never stops .. But there can be that one person who can quiet the noise.

Wow its been awhile since someone has replyed to this so I will. I think this song is about all his problems that have happend in his life and what may happen in the future. But he has his friends around him dealing with simular to the same problems of his.

"I've got 14 angels and we're sleeping alone In the back of a cave, where the rest of us go To feel normal"

I think this refers to his friends in his life who are outcasts like he is and together they try to deal with everyday life.

"Give me strength to be kind... To combine All the good things in life that were so hard to find

But I have and I won't let them go like I do with my friends" some people might read this line thinking it might he wont let the strength go like he let go of his friends. I think this line really means he wont let go the good things in life and the strength given to him just like he wouldnt let go of any of his friends that are close to him.

"Still bearing voices... From front... From behind They're the reasons I choose... When to live... How to die When to cast... When to reel When to buy... When to steal"

This line I think the "voices" he hears are not in a literal sense. I think it means more of "voices" from the past prestent and future struggles he has, have, or will have to deal with.

This song is amazing

look it up on youtube when hes doing argue with a tree he explains the meaning of this song saying"its the good side of me talking to me telling me to stay clean" this song has nothing to do with the fact hes bipolar and not schizophrenic!

I think the line "slow strangle" refers to suicide from hanging. And maybe the end of the line "with your feet on the floor" is the hesitation he feels about going through it?

I find myself humming this song all the time, sometimes singing some of the verses. It's oddly comforting. I feel a lot less alone knowing that I'm not the only one stuck in my head, but also someone has made a beautiful song out of something so ugly and so isolating.

I feel like the song 'Quiet Mind' by Blue October is about someone bringing the singer peace—'a quiet mind'—and he loves them for it. It’s as if they bring a calm to his never-ending battle with the voices in his head. For many people living daily with disorders like Bipolar, ADD/ADHD, or those who have endured traumatic events, even those facing constant battles within themselves, the mind can feel like it’s always 'on.' But when we’re around certain people who make us feel truly relaxed and comfortable—where we can be our true selves—they 'help to quiet our minds'. That’s such a powerful and meaningful thing. Such an underrated song!
