Smile, You've Won Lyrics

Once because we always were there.
I'm impressed you've never seemed so scared,
and you still don't know.
But I found comfort in this bottle and you out of site,
out of mind and nowhere close to being,
sober straight I've seen that look in me.
Don't ever let me see those words on your lips,
it's just me,it's just me.
So yeah yeah well now its peace in the form of a dove.
And yeah yeah its peace and love or just whatever goes down,
easily, consuming our bodies; it's your fight this night.

What the hell's it to me, you still are what I think.
(Sky and buildings, lay so neatly.)
Keep those pictures around just to stay awake.
(Calm that leaves me safely dreaming.)
And we wait for winter, but no we wait forever.

It was desire represented by a ring with an angel,
I stayed until you fell asleep, but yeah you fell for me.
And lost the ring so I hope there's still
a piece of me upon your bedroom floor.
Where you curl up at night,
this nicotine is your air.
Stay to the face but feelings go over your head.

Once the sleep comes its over.
So both of us saw what it was,
everything you were every time.
A favorite of my dreams,
you've seen all that is me.
So sure you should take that,
it's one more mile, just the same.

Some say that, kings fall from grace.
So now we sit like kings amongst this,
crowd, is gone so speak to me.

Some nights she still charms her way out
and hopes to leave with a morning of sleep.

I love Lydia, such tight musianship. I think this is about a messy situation, not so much a break-up, just a very messy situation to be in with emotions and feelings.

But I found comfort in this bottle and your out of site,

  • finally getting them off your mind

Don't ever let me see those words on your lips, it's just me, it's just me.

  • when people use the "it's just me" to excuse their behavor in a relationship

What the h---'s it to me, you still are what I think. Keep those pictures around just to stay awake. And we wait for winter, but no we wait forever. It was desire represented by a ring with angel,

  • breaking up

I stayed until, you fell asleep but yeah you fell for me and lost the ring so I hope there's still a piece of me upon your bedroom floor

  • the failed relationship

it does seem like this song is about a relationship, i interpret this song a little differently though- probably just because it reminds me of something i went through..

"I’m impressed you've never seemed so scared" and "Don't ever let me see those words on your lips, it's just me, it's just me."

  • i feel like the girl loves the guy but is breaking it off with him, either because she's done something wrong or because she loves someone else more or because it just isn't the same.

"it’s your fight this night. What the h---'s it to me, you still are what I think"

  • i think as she tries to explain herself he is saying that he doesn't care what she says, he has already formed his opinion of her and its not going to change.

"It was desire represented by a ring with angel"

  • i'm probably wrong but- i see this line as if they're talking about lust, like in the begining it was all desire and they showed there lust for eachother, they were really attracted to eachother- physically/emotionally.

"you fell for me and lost the ring so I hope there's still a piece of me upon your bedroom floor where you curl up at night"

-but then it became more than like and lust, it was love, she fell for him and lost her virginity to him. and because of that emotional bond theres still a piece of him with her, she'll always love him.

"So sure you should take that, it’s one more mile, just the same"

  • i think this line is him asking her if shes sure.. telling her that all the relationships will just be the same because he knows her best, he knows how she is.

anyways i adore lydia

This song is one of my favorites. I see it as what I went through with a past relationship.

"and you still don't know but I found comfort in this bottle and your out of site, out of mind and nowhere close to being, sober " -He's trying to drink her memories away, but he's ashamed of himself for doing it, so he doesn't want her to know.

"you still are what I think" "A favorite of my dreams" -He sees her as some saint, even though he knows in the back of his mind that she isn't.

"Don't ever let me see those words on your lips, it's just me, it's just me" -While she's sitting there trying to make him feel better, he's telling her not to lie to just be honest about why they broke up.

"I hope there's still a piece of me upon your bedroom floor where you curl up at night" -He hopes that she still thinks of him and misses him at times.

"So both of us saw what it was, everything you were every time" -He realizes how she is but he still refuses to believe it.

But that's just my point of view on this song. The best thing about Lydia is that their lyrics can be taken many ways depending on your perception of it. That's one of the things that makes this music so beautiful.

for the record it's actually "i've found comfort in this bottle and you out of sight." so him drinking and her gone. yeah, this song is about and extremely complicated relationship. the two people love each other but there seem to be a lot of factors keeping them apart and even bitter towards each other. i think most of the lyrics are pretty self explanatory, but beautiful at the same time which i think is a hard thing to do. this song doesn't just outright say the meaning, but it isn't really difficult to figure out at the same time. this and your taste is my attention are their best songs for sure.
