Screw You, We’re From Texas Lyrics
I got on my cowboys boots, jeans and lawyer’s shirt, mirrored sunglasses and mobile phone
I guess I look like some Port Aransas dope dealer’s out on bail just trying to get home
Well, I aint in jail and I got me a guitar, and I got a little band that’s hotter than a rocket
Sometimes we’re sloppy, we’re always loud, tonight were just all around locked in the pocket
So screw you, we’re from Texas
Screw you, we’re from Texas
Screw you, we’re from Texas
We’re from Texas baby, so screw you
Now I love the USA and the other states, ah now they’re OK
Texas is the place I wanna be and I don’t care if I ever go to Delaware anyway
Cause we got Stubbs and Gruene Hall and Antones and John T’s Country Store
We got Willie, and Jackie, Jack, Robert Earl, Pat, Cory, Charlie and me, and so many more
So screw you, we’re from Texas
Screw you, we’re from Texas
Screw you, we’re from Texas
We’re from Texas, screw you
Sing it with me, screw you, we’re from Texas
Screw you, we’re from Texas
Screw you, we’re from Texas
We’re from Texas, screw you
Now Texas has gotten a bad reputation because of what happened in Dallas and Waco
And the corporations well, they are corrupt and the politicians are swindlers and loco
But when it comes to music my friend, I believe these words are as true as St. John the Revelators
Our Mr. Vaughn was the best that there ever was and no band was cooler than the 13th Floor Elevators
So screw you, we’re from Texas
Screw you, we’re from Texas
Screw you, we’re from Texas
We’re from Texas, screw you
Screw you, we’re from Texas
Screw you, we’re from Texas
Screw you, we’re from Texas
We’re from Texas, screw you

While this song may just sound like a typical pissed off Texan with all the “Screw you we’re from Texas” lines, I think it is really an anthem about Texas music and particularly Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Hubbard talks about having a guitar and a band. He refers to several Texas music venues. He says, “We got Willie (Nelson), and Jackie (Greene), Jack (Ingram), Robert Earl (Keen), Pat (Green), Cory (Morrow), Charlie (Robinson),” these are all Texas music artists. The “13th Floor Elevators” was a Texas band back in the day, and of course “Mr. Vaughn” refers to Stevie Ray Vaughn who was a Texas Blues/Rock guitar master who died in the early 90’s.
Love Stevie!!! Love Love Love him!!! And also love saying "screw you" even though I'm no Texan :D

It's "Hawaiian shirt" not "lawyer's shirt"
Luv the attitude! My sentiments exactly.
Jacky Jack is actually Jerry Jeff Walker, one of the most iconic singer/songwriters Texas has ever produced. He was called Jacky Jack Snowdrift in his younger booze and drug addled days as the original Texas "cosmic cowboy".
He has a unique voice, attitude, style, and outlook on life. He was a close disciple of the legendary Hondo Crouch (RIP), and carried on the tales of many Cowboy Poets.
It boggles my mind when I recall how many unique vocalists came out of that Austin, Texas music scene. Willie Nelson, Rusty Wier, Jerry Jeff Walker, Steven Fromholz, B.W. Stevenson, Guy Clark, Robert Earl Keen, and so many more. Each with a distinctive sound that we all tried to emulate, but could never truly duplicate.
