Some of them come now
Some of them are running
Some of them are looking for fun
Some of them are looking for a way out of confusion
Some of them don't know what to be
Some of them don't know where to go
Some of them trust their instincts that something's missing from the show
Some don't fit society,
Their insides are crying low
Some of them teachers quash the flame 'fore it had a chance to grow
Some of them embers still glow
Them charcoal, hushed and low
Some of them come with the hunger suppressed, not fed
Them feel a death blow
Young man, control in your hand
Slam your fist on the table and make your demand
Take a stand
Fan a fire for the flame of the youth
Got the freedom to choose
Better make the right move
Young man, the power's in your hand
Slam your fist on the table and make your demand
You better make the right move
Storm the halls of vanity
Focus your energy
Into a laser beam
Streaming shattered light
Unites to pierce
Between the seams
And it seems
In a world open
Peering, the children see
Rapid fire for your mind
Half the truth is just a lie
They rub me the wrong way
They say their way or fall behind
Seventeen disconnect left out
The concept as to why
There's a spiritual emptiness
So the youth them get vexed
Skip class and get wrecked
Feel with music and cigarettes
To fill the hole in their chest
Young man, control in your hand
Slam your fist on the table and make your demand
Take a stand
Fan a fire for the flame of the youth
Got the freedom to choose
Better make the right move
Young man, the power's in your hand
Slam your fist on the table and make your demand
You better make the right move
Freedom to choose
Better make the right move
Got the freedom to chooooose
Young man, control in your hand

damn. this song makes me feel like i need to do something
I don't thinks this song is about drugs or anything like that. I think this song is more about how kids these days have so much to worry about because society makes non-conformity socially unacceptable. He talks about how school contributes to the amount of stress they have to deal with. The chorus is about how we have to at some point stop doing something just because thats what we've been told to do, we have to make our own decisions.
to me this song is about peer pressure and drugs.. think about it.. at the beginning he talks about not fitting into society (peer pressure?) .. "some of them teachers quash the flame before it had a chance to grow" ..maybe an older person educated him about the effects drugs can have on you, but others didnt therefore got sucked into peer pressure.. i coulld be wrong, its just my interpretation. but i looove matisyahu!
this song is about jewish struggles in in the middle east. matisyahu is was a reformed jew but went back to orthodox roots, hence the outfit. if you listen to the words and understand the middle eastern struggle, it makes sense. its reggae, but i sense a hostile position from matisyahu. read the words, then read about him. its just the conclusion i came up with
this song is just about taking a stand and making your voice heard. that, if you don't get the results you like, keep tryin til ya do.
matisyahu is the first act accepted by mainstream media that has real talent and also a positive message i have seen in a long time. why do they embrace him? there must be something up when mtv embraces someone who seems to stand up for a little morality and responsibility.
duh? he is out of the ordinary: a hasidic jew who has sik rhyming skills in reggae/hip hop tempo... ...good point though
Very inspiring song for me. Too many people want to tell you not to follow your dreams if it doesn't fit the social mold, no matter how wrong that mold may be.
these lyrics are wrong... no respect? matisyahu not rodney dangerfield.
it goes: .. half the truth is just a lie they rub me the wrong way.....
Storm the halls of vanity Focus your energy into a laser beam
the rest is right until.. as to why there is a spiritual emptiness only so can get vexxed get plasitc and beer and cigarettes to wrecka hole in their chest
You are right surge55. I agree. I also take this as a "get off your ass and make something of yourself" type song.
