Room of Angel Lyrics

you lie silent there before me
your tears, they mean nothing to me
the wind howling at the window
the love you never gave
I give to you

really don't deserve it
but now, there's nothing you can do
so sleep in your only memory of me
my dearest mother

here's a lullaby to close your eyes
(goodbye...)
it was always you that I despised
I don't feel enough for you to cry, oh no
here's a lullaby to close your eyes
(goodbye...)

so insignificant, sleeping dormant deep inside of me
are you hiding away, lost, under the sewers?
maybe flying high, in the clouds?
perhaps you're happy without me
so many seeds have been sown in the field
and who could sprout up so blessedly
if I had died I would never felt sad at all,
you will not hear me say "I'm sorry"
where is the light?
wonder if it's weeping somewhere...

here's a lullaby to close your eyes
(goodbye)
it was always you i despised
I don't feel enough for you to cry, oh no
here's a lullaby to close your eyes
(goodbye)

WHAT, NO PAST COMMENTS?! this has to be Mary's best singing performance to date. It's so beautifully sung and written that it more then deserves mention.

Oh my gosh, beautiful lyrics with a wonderfully eerie song. I love this song, and it is definitely one of my faves for her.

"so insignificant, sleeping dormant deep inside of me are you hiding away, lost, under the sewers? maybe flying high, in the clouds? perhaps you're happy without me"

the first time I heard this song on the game I fell in love with It right away, easily one of my favorite sad songs ever

I LOVE this song...Okay. Time to pick it apart! First off, before I start, it was thought up by me and my friend, Red that there's a child singing to her mother. The mother never cared for the child. So that's the base to what we think this means-

"you lie silent there before me"

  • Seems like the mother is on her sickbed in the hospital, and the daughter or child is singing. So the mother lies silently before her.

"Your tears, they mean nothing to me"

The mother's at the mercy of the daughter now. And it's her turn to not give a damn.

"The wind...Howling at the window"

Red observes this as a kind of longing. The way it's sung sounds painful.

"The love you never gave, I give to you"

Self-explanitory, although it's like the child was never accepted. She tried and tried, but the mother never cared.

(you) really don't deserve it

See above

"But now, there's nothing you can do"

That's like saying "it's too late, now, to wrewrite our time together, if any."

"So, sleep, in your only memory Of me (not so weep), My...Dearest mother..."

it's kinda like the child walks up to the mother and says this. The only memory the mother will ever have is of her neglect to her child. Major guilt trip there.

"here's a lullaby to close your eyes (goodbye...) it was always you that I despised I don't feel enough for you to cry, oh no here's a lullaby to close your eyes (goodbye...)"

Red and I agreed on this being some sort of a mock-lullaby to her mother, whom is going to close her eyes for the last time.

so insignificant = the weaker part of them (says Red) To add on, that must've been how the mother made the child feel.

hiding away lost = that one explains itself flying high = in heaven?

Considering the content of the game itself and the design (as stated above, mock-lullaby), there could be a religious significance to the song; if God was defined as a woman in Silent Hill 3, and Walter Sullivan is the vehicle (or is the actual personificaton of) the Devil himself, then for all we know this could be a song from Walter to Alessa, or from the Devil to God as the "21 Sacraments" are being completed. That's just my uneducated guess, lol

I agree with Chaos-blue. A lot of projection of inner pain and guilt onto her mother. "I don't feel enough for you to cry," I guess means that the child tried so very hard to make her mother cry but couldn't.

Without giving away any spoilers or cryptic references, this song has always sounded like a killer who is blaming his mother for not killing him when he was young, thus preventing his exploits. It's almost as if she tried and he's rubbng it in her face that she failed. It also seems that he is getting revenge on the mother he never knew with every victim.

BTW, I just recently started playing the game and I haven't completed it yet, so please don't call me on this inept translation!

I personally think the song is about murder. Specifically the person is murdering their murder, out of hate or even lack of any emotion toward her.

"Your tears they mean nothing to me" gives me the clear indication that the person has no emotional attachment towards the person they're talking to.
