Wine Red (Demo) Lyrics

Who shot that arrow in your throat?
Who missed the crimson apple?
Well it hung heavy on the tree above your head
This chaos, this calamity, this garden once was perfect
Give your immortality to me, I'll set you up against the stars

Gloria, we lied, we can't go on
This is the time and this is the place to be, alive

Who shot that arrow in your throat?
Who missed the crimson apple?
and there is discord in the garden tonight

The sea is wine red
This is the deat of beauty
The doves have died
The lovers have lied

I caught the arrow from your neck
Stretched you beneath the tree
Along the roots and baby's breath
They covered us with silver leaves

Gloria, we lied, we can't go on
This is the time and this is the place to be, alive

The sea is wine red
This is the death of beauty
The doves have died
The lovers have lied

The sea is wine red
This is the death of beauty
The doves have died
The lovers have lied

The sea is wine red
This is the death of beauty
The doves have died
The lovers have lied

This feels like a twisted story of Adam and Eve to me, with a dash of Romeo and Juliet mixed in. It starts at the end, with the two characters reflecting back on what happened. Adam and Eve ate from the tree in the garden of Eden, both of which are mentioned in the first verse. The shooting of the arrow is the hand of God, so to say, and they were punished for what they did.Instead of the apple getting the arrow, they did. Gloria, obviously invoking for God to listen, seeing as it is said at Mass. Then the chorus is where I start to think Romeo and Juliet, seeing as the lovers lie to their parents throughout the play, and the truth only comes out when they die. I think that the lovers in this song are an alternate Adam and Eve, where they are punished by death for their sin of eating the fruit.

p.s. I'm not Catholic. I'm not a religious fanatic. I'm a girl who has been in Catholic school for way too long.

yes its like a romantic twist on the garden of eden story written like a beautiful fairytale to tell you children at night.

maybe adam and eve are metaphors to how human are kinda destroying the earth, humor me for a while; weell adam and eve got to live in this perfect garden were the only rule was the forbiiden apple but they couldnt control wanting what they couldnt have so ultimatly they had the beautiful garden taken away. now we had this beatuiful garden (okies slightly larger than adams/eves) that god also created for us and we are slowly stripping apart the world to make all these thing we want but technically dont need and one day we will have our garden taken form us!?

TECHNICALLY it was called the forbidden fruit and no one really knows whether it was an apple or not. for all we know it could have been a starfruit....

well it does seem mostly adam and eve for this but then there's other things. i might be wrong because i haven't exactly picked up the bible too much and i've only managed to read a couple of the stories. but the lovers and the garden would mean adam and eve and by lying its either about the lovers trying to lie about whether they ate the apple or not or it could be that they went against their promise not to eat the apple because sometimes making a promise that you aren't going to keep can be seen as a lie. and the immortality part, God took away adam and eves immortality when they left the garden. And the sea of wine red, wasn't it in the Moses story that the sea turned blood/wine red? and doves, thats when the arc sent the dove to find land and it brought back... an olive branch? so the dove was the hope and now hope has died.

so basically, hope is gone, people have sinned, and we can't go on (to heaven), so this is the time and place to be alive. Here on earth, we have to live because people have lost their faith and have their doubts of heaven. And if Gloria is invoking God (reading previous comment), then this is a whole song dedicated to God apologizing and telling God that we've drifted away and are faltering and we can't go on following him when we have no faith. It's about humans loosing faith in God.
