One Step Behind Lyrics
Come in, sit by the light
Tell us everything, that happened tonight
We know you were there, there at the scene of the crime
No, no you've got it all wrong
So don't blame me for something I haven't done
It was all just a big mistake
(And now you can't think straight)
'Cause they're on to you now (And now you can't think straight)
And they figured you out (And now you can't think straight)
'Cause they're on to you now (And now you can't think straight)
They're always just one step behind
And you’re so scared of what they'll find
And now you're running for your life
You're buying anything they sell
Those pushed we'll always say they fell
You got a postcard sent from hell
With my, strong alibi
You can't frame me, don't even try
You don't know me, you're not even trying to see
(And now you can't think straight)
'Cause they're on to you now (And now you can't think straight)
And they figured you out (And now you can't think straight)
'Cause they're on to you now (And now you can't think straight)
They're always just one step behind
And you’re so scared of what they'll find
And now you're running for your life
You're buying anything they sell
Those pushed we'll always say they fell
You got a postcard sent from hell
And you know you don't belong
And the papers are never wrong
Just like the public don't forget, don't forget, don't forget
And now you can't think straight, you can't think straight
(And now you can't think straight)
You're not even trying to see
(And now you can't think straight)
You're not even trying to see
(And now you can't think straight)
You're not even trying to see
(And now you can't think straight)
They're always just one step behind
And you’re so scared of what they'll find
And now you're running for your life

love The Harmonics
this song is so wicked. it is one of my favorites on their State Of Emergency album. i saw it live in may and their got four of the people from hunters and collecters to play the instrumental bit. it was absolutley ausum.. i am not very sure about the meaning. it could be about being afraid to show the world who you are or about a criminal or something like that...any ideas?
maybe it's about injustice.
i love the lyrics though, especially "those pushed will always say they fell"
best band ever.
its got really strong imagery... and i think theres more than one character; interagater and interagatee.. but thats kminda obvious... it always makes me imagine a movie of film clip ;)
I'm thinking this song is about the non-stop circle some police detectives find themselves in, when it's obvious someone has commited a crime, yet, because there is no solid evidence, it's impossible to convict them.
And damn, this song gets so climactic at the end, with the horns coming in, and the music getting louder and heavier, so rousing, I love turning the stereo up loud at this bit just because it's awesome.
