Yeah (Sowing Season) Lyrics

Losing all my friends
Losing them to drinking and to driving
Losing all my friends
I want it back

Slipping out the back
Did you really think we wouldn’t notice?
Slipping out the back
In the pouring rain

Yeah
Yeah

But you loved your wife
You were always faithful to her always
Buried both the kids
In the summer sun

Praying for this life
Huddled in the brig all with the shipmates
Praying for this life
And I dropped the bomb

Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah, yeah

What you waiting for
Searching for his brother
In an empty room across the hall
Is he coming back

Listening at night
Waiting for a son to come up the stairs
Listening at night
Waiting for the sound of the car park

Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah, yeah

Call him up this summer
On the phone
Need to know what it feels like again

Summer skin
Found another lover
Tell him straight, call him up again

I'll call him up again, yeah
Call him up again

Tying both your shoes and
Looking past the ocean for the signal
Waiting for a body
In a open box

They don't send you letters
They telephone you
They don't send you letters
But you're waiting for them
You write him, yeah

Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah

Call him up this summer
On the phone
Need to know what it feels like again

I'll call him up again

Call him up this summer
On the phone
Need to know what it feels like again

Just some changes I thought should be made:

But HE loved HIS wife HE LOVED HER AND WAS faithful to her always Buried both the kids in the summer sun

Praying for HIS life Huddled in the brig all with the shipmates Praying for HIS life and I dropped the bomb

What you waiting for? Searching for YOUR brother In an empty room across the hall Is he coming back?

Listening at night Waiting for a SOUND to come up the stairs Listening at night for the sound of a car PAKING, YEAH

Summer skin Found another lover Tell him straight, TELL HIM ON THE PHONELINE (?) again

Tying both your shoes and Looking 'CROSS the ocean for the signal Waiting for a body in an open box

They don't send you letters They don't telephone your INNOCENT SELF (?) They don't send you letters But you're waiting for THEM TO WRITE HIM, YEAH

Probably my favorite song out of the demos.

oh and I think we should call these tracks "Fight Off Your Demos"

The end has been bothering me the whole summer...

I think it may be "waiting for a body and an open line" Whatever it is, I don't her box, and "line" makes more sense all the talk of calling.

instead of "need to know what it feels like again" i hear "then you'll know it feels right again"

And afterwards I don't think its "call him up again" It sounds something along the lines of "Coming to an end" i think....

alright then the last line he mutters something that sounds along the lines of "some are not as _____" has an "in" sound to it. Which kind of reminds me of Not the Sun where insted of "not the sun", he says "will not listen" but its really hard to discern. I think maybe its not Summer skin after the first time but maybe "some are...."

I don't know I wish we could just get a transcript, i've been wrestling with these forever

Losing all my friends Losing them to drinking and to driving Losing all my friends I want it back

(perhaps this is self explanitory)

Slipping out the back Did you really think we wouldnt notice? Slipping out the back In the pouring rain

(I think maybe it was necessary to leave home without parental permission)

Yeah Yeah

But you loved your wife You were always faithful to her always Buried both the kids In the summer sun

(the parents, maybe, lost more than one child to the military?)

Praying for this life Huddled in the brig all with the shipmates Praying for this life And I dropped the bomb

(I believe this is CENTRAL to this song.... I believe that like in "Untitled 02 (Brother)" his brother joined the military (Navy, most likely) Hence "praying for his life, huddled in the brig all withh shipmates")

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah, yeah

What you waiting for Searching for his brother In an empty room across the hall Is he coming back

(obviously he still wants to walk into his brother's room and find him there. nd wonders if he will see him alive again...)

Listening at night Waiting for a sound to come up the stairs Listening at night Waiting for the sound of the car park

(anyone who has ever lost a family member to the service of their country should understand this.... waiting for the serviceman and chaplain to come to the door with a terrible letter.... )

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah, yeah

Call him up this summer On the phone Need to know what it feels like again

Summer skin Found another lover Tell him straight, call him up again

I'll call him up again, yeah Call him up again

Tying both your shoes and Looking past the ocean for the signal Waiting for a body In a open box

(again, fairly self explanitory)

They don't send you letters They don't telephone you and they don't send They don't send you letters But you're waiting for them You write him, yeah

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah, yeah Yeah

Call him up this summer On the phone Need to know what it feels like again

I'll call him up again

Call him up this summer On the phone Need to know what it feels like again

(this song says so much to me, and it's definately one of my favorites.... I know we all hear what we want to hear in the lyrics of songs, but this one and untitled 02 really speak volumes to me, though I have not lost my brother, I can not imagine what it would do to me if ever I did... I don't know Jesse's story, or if he even had a brother in the service, but that's what I hear... thanks)

The second verse begins "Leo loved his wife..."

In the liner notes to The Devil and God there is a dedication to a number of people who passed away during the making of the album, one of whom is Leo Lacey. I'm assuming this is Jesse's grandfather or another older relative, and that the line that goes "huddled in the brig all with his shipmates, praying for his life when they dropped the bomb" is a reference to WWII. A quick Google search confirms that a Leo Lacey who spent his life around the NJ/NYC/Long Island area did indeed serve in the Pacific Theater during WWII.

That might give some insight as to the meaning of the song.

It's most likely "Buried both her kids" not 'bout Everyone's quality of this song sounds around the quality of Car right, of all the demos this seems the most demoy, to make up a word

Losing friends to drinking and driving....

Is this an alusion to the line "have another drink and crive your self home" from 7 X 70

I think this song is talking about loosing his friend and rebuilding the realtionship. Also doesn't he talk about his friends brother in another song off that cd? And I think its the same brother mentioned here.

Cover art for Yeah (Sowing Season) lyrics by Brand New

It's not an alusion to Seventy Times 7 in which Jesse told John Nolan to go and die. Sorry.

Cover art for Yeah (Sowing Season) lyrics by Brand New

no. def nothin to do with 70x7, to me it sounds like a kid sneakin out and worrying his parents to death. Jesse must really love the water ocean etc. Maritime stuff all over his lyrics. Also corrections It's "searching "for his brother in an empty room across the hall" I think it's "Found another lover tellem straight, call him up again." might not be it but ur def missin a few words. I also think it might be "or an open wound" not open box although i think i like box it just dont sound like box to me

Cover art for Yeah (Sowing Season) lyrics by Brand New

not a bad song still, i dont think this one should end up on the new album. what are the rumors so far? are all these songs meant to end up on the new cd? are there more ?
