Ghosts Lyrics

When the room is quiet
The daylight almost gone
It seems there's something I should know
Well I ought to leave but the rain it never stops
And I've no particular place to go

Just when I think I'm winning
When I've broken every door
The ghosts of my life blow wilder than before
Just when I thought I could not be stopped
When my chance came to be king
The ghosts of my life blew wilder than the wind

Well I'm feeling nervous
Now I find myself alone
The simple life's no longer there
Once I was so sure
Now the doubt inside my mind
Comes and goes but leads nowhere

Just when I think I'm winning
When I've broken every door
The ghosts of my life blow wilder than before
Just when I thought I could not be stopped
When my chance came to be king
The ghosts of my life blew wilder than the wind

I think it's about someone who can't see any good in his future, and had and maybe still has chances (or one chance only, which makes this sader) to let go of his past, which is full of bad things, and just when he thinks he can let go and move forward to be\do something else, something good, something different, his past comes right into the door and won't leave - "When my chance came to be king The ghosts of my life blew wilder than the wind".

What else can I say about a song like this one.. Truly amazing song that you can't forget, with such beautiful music and great vocals from David S., as always. Defently, one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

I thought the lyrics are autobiographical about the band at the time of writing the Tin Drum album, just beginning to be successful and how stressful and scary it was....of course they split up soon after the album was released.

this song is underwhelming in a very impressive way

This track is largely tuneless apart from the chorus. Normally this would be a bad thing, but in this case it works. Touching lyric about being haunted by the past. A great track

i just "discovered" this song, and all i can say is that it really touched me. to me it's so beautiful, sad, obscure (maybe even obscene) and the fact that it's so minimalist even puts more effect into the whole thing. to me it's really weird that it marked the top 5 in it's own time. IMO, this is a song about someone being quite optimistic with the result he's going to get, but his mistakes/wrong behavior, in other words, ghosts, make it all fail.

I love this song and cannot believe that during a work-out today I heard it as a techno/rave version sung by a young lady. Nice song and yet the lyrics are still haunting. A certain testament that this is a quality song, no matter what genre it's performed. It's so poignant because this song touches everyone that's had a set back, fear or doubt. I challenge anyone to find music that is as layered, focused, creative and genuine as David Sylvian and the artists affiliated with Japan. Maybe...Mark Hollis and crew?

i read on a website that the bass player from japan ( mick karn ) recently published a painfully honest autobiography, from what i can gather ( i havent read it, but i read a few comments about it on a website ) he speaks of a violent and scary childhood, depression, and the sad fact that the singer from japan was a crazy control freak who was moody and unpredictable ( maybe high on drugs? i dont want to slander anyone! ) to me this song has always been about having a self destructive streak, almost like sabotaging anything good that comes along, i think i was like that when i was younger, its a way of staying in control of your situation, but this is obviously my personal interperation.
