Wrong Turn Lyrics
And I will wait here awhile
Just long enough to be sure that you didn't make a wrong turn
And I wait long enough
Maybe an hour or two
Before I decide
It wasn't me it was you
Wasn't me it was you
And I would like you to know
Although it seems sad to say
This was only the worst hour of my day
The worst hour of my day
How long has it been on your mind?
Do you think about it when we lie?
I think it's a big mistake
'Cause I think that we could make it last
Even if it's just for awhile
Wait here for now
Just along enough to be
Sure that you really want to go through with this
'Cause I really wanna go through with this
And do you really wanna go through with this?
Just long enough to be sure that you didn't make a wrong turn
And I wait long enough
Maybe an hour or two
Before I decide
It wasn't me it was you
Wasn't me it was you
And I would like you to know
Although it seems sad to say
This was only the worst hour of my day
The worst hour of my day
How long has it been on your mind?
Do you think about it when we lie?
I think it's a big mistake
'Cause I think that we could make it last
Even if it's just for awhile
Wait here for now
Just along enough to be
Sure that you really want to go through with this
'Cause I really wanna go through with this
And do you really wanna go through with this?

ah a great song. i think this song is about two friends (or lovers) who decide to go their separate ways because they are just so far apart that they are only dragging each other down. However, they are not sure if they want to go through with it.. "And I wait long enough..Maybe and hour or two..Before I decide" and in the end, one friend says that they want to make their relationship last, only if for a little while..
To understand this song you need to understand Jack Johnson in which I feel I know very well. I have listened to his music like Gospel for years only to overtake, my all time favorite u2 which is all truth if you can hear it and see it. This song wrong turn saved my marriage and I think for sure he wife was having doubts about their marriage and future probably due to her own endeavors like "same girl" and "tomorrow morning". I picture Jack standing at a crossroad in which he feels his wife has lost affection...
I picture Jack standing at a crossroad in which he feels his wife has lost affection and is about to make a wrong turn yet he doesn't make any rash moves and blame her and contemplates within himself if it wasn't himself making the wrong turn meaning divorce. He waits at the crossroads before proceeding because he knows he will make the right choice regardless of her but he is patiently waiting hoping she will not make the wrong turn. I had the same thing happen in my marriage and we were both making the wrong turn, we ended up getting a divorce initiated by me because she made a wrong turn and I knew it was the right thing and went my own path. She soon after realized she made a wrong turn and I was on my same path heading in the right way, felt the loss of me and the loss of God. She changed her life and came running after me metaphorically and I never lost love for her so we got remarried in Hawaii a couple of years ago and are now having our third girl. We had to go through that massive trial and error to rectify past wrong turns and get on the same path together now trust is rebuilt and we are happier, wiser and cherish our relationship more than ever. I think Jack's wife came to realize her wrong turn early and they are still married. They have a true love like we do that will last forever. Jack and I see eye to eye. His songs are much deeper than anyone will ever know. I don't think he even knows how true and deep they are. He writes them while under the spirit in one sitting and then it's over for him. He shares it with his friends and the creation is done and he has to move on to the next creation. Get to know Jack by reading everything you can about him and you can understand the beauty of his music that is lyrics and music. He was a film guy, surfer and a nature man in Hawaii.
I think shadyconcepts' interpretation is pretty accurate. I really love this song; just so gentle and beautiful and a real treat to listen to after a hard day at the office.
I thought the lyrics said,
"How long has it been on your mind? Do you think about it when we laugh?"
Doesn't this make more sense? Like, does the person think about separating even when the two are happy?
I think it's a guy with his girlfriend and he is constantly pondering whether or not it's over between them....he'll wait there a while to see if his constant thoughts about it being over go away or not...and he thinks it's all him but he decides it's because what she does to him that makes him want to leave and then eventually kicks her to the curb..
I think it's all about HER breaking up with him Mikey. He waits and hopes she doesn't. It isn't anything he's done he realises, it's maybe her fear that stops her from commiting. So no matter how long he waits, it's inevitable that she will make a 'Wrong Turn' - because she will no longer be with him ... I feel like crying !
It could e based on a relationship, on something similar. Perhaps it's just an overgaurding feeling of loving someone so much you would watch over them -- and most itmes people relate that to a boyfriend/girlfriend aspect.
"And I will wait here awhile Just long enough to be sure that you didn’t make a wrong turn"
This could be during the relationship, where he is constantly watching over her -- making sure she doesn't make a wrong turn.
"And I wait long enough Maybe an hour or two Before I decide It wasn’t me it was you Wasn't me it was you."
And this starts the break-up. One of the most common phrases is: "It's me, it's my fault." But perhaps he's holding anger behind -- because she did make a wrong turn, and it was her fault.
"And I would like you to know Although it seems sad to say This was only the worst hour of my day The worst hour of my day"
After a break up, there is usually mutual feelings of hate for eachother. A competition to see, "who is over it first."
"How long has it been on your mind? Do you think about it when we lie?"
At this point, a while after the break-up, he wonders if she still wants the relationship back. And all those 'lies', being the 'Only worse hour of my day' -- do they still think about them?
"I think it’s a big mistake Cause I think that we could make it last Even if it’s just for awhile."
And the regret starts pouring in. He regrets not giving them another chance, and realizes they could continue it -- if only for a little longer.
"Wait here for now Just along enough to be Sure that you really want to go through with this Cause I really wanna go through with this And do you really wanna go through with this?"
At this point, the relationship is refreshed and new -- and do they really both want to go through with this again?
I love this song. It's one of my all time favourites. Jack said in an interview that the song was actually about divorce. Before anyone freaks out, it has NOTHING to do with HIS marriage. But when they asked him to do songs for Curious George they needed one about divorce....and well, here it is!
arena.........dang. You really nailed that .
Champion song. I play it on my myspace.
