Mr. Blue Lyrics

Mr. Blue
I told you that I love you
Please believe me

Mr. Blue
I have to go now
Darling don’t be angry

I know that you’re tired
I know that you’re sore and sick and sad
For some reason

So I’ll leave you with a smile
Kiss you on the cheek
And you will call it treason

That’s the way it goes
Some days a fever comes at you
Without a warning

And I can see it in your face
You’ve been waiting to break
Since you woke up this morning

Mr. Blue
Don’t hold your head so low that you can’t see the sky
Mr. Blue
It ain’t so long since you were flying high

Mr. Blue
I told you that I love you
Please believe me

Hmmm... I think its more lover/best friend related but...

I took it as an illness (most likely depression) or maybe just a rough patch and shes saying she has to move on. When you get depressed like that, you start to only like being depressed because nothing else feels right, so you start to get used to it.

But phneuugh... I dont know.

My Opinion

"and i can see it in your face, you've been waiting to break since you woke up this morning." my favorite part. this song is about a girl who is constantly trying to cheer up her lover or whoever mr.blue may be (obviously.)

well i think that this isn't about her in love...but about her breaking up with her lover.

Mr. Blue I told you that I love you Please believe me [maybe she's telling him that she loves him but she just doesn't want to be with him.]

Mr. Blue I have to go now Darling don’t be angry [she left him, but she doesn't want him upset about it.]

I know that you’re tired I know that you’re sore and sick and sad For some reason [maybe he's feeling blue [[hence, mr. blue]] about her departure and he's sad.]

So I’ll leave you with a smile Kiss you on the cheek And you will call it treason [she leaves him with a kiss, and he'll call it treason. it's a reference to the bible when judas i believe betrays jesus and spots him out by giving him a kiss on the cheek. so maybe he thinks she betrayed him because judas and jesus were such great friends, as the couple would be, but then judas betrayed jesus, as she betrayed him.]

That’s the way it goes Some days a fever comes at you Without a warning [maybe she's saying that she broke up with him without a warning.]

And I can see it in your face You’ve been waiting to break Since you woke up this morning [maybe he's wanting to break down and she knows it.]

Mr. Blue Don’t hold your head so low that you can’t see the sky Mr. Blue It ain’t so long since you were flying high [she's telling him not to be so sad about it, because from the first line, she's saying she loves.]

Mr. Blue I told you that I love you Please believe me [she is saying still loves him.]

just my outlook.

I agree with most other opinions, I interpreted the song somewhat like this; She is in love with a man [Mr. Blue], who is quite sad and has been for some time. She desperately wants to help him, and encourages him to feel better, but in the end there's really nothing she can do, and so decides she has to leave.

I think she is singing about her boyfriend who has depression. he's always paranoid and worries that she doesn't love him, and she does.

Song Meaning

So i know it's been a while since anybody checked this song's comments but i would like to give it my thoughts. I recently finished a series called Bojack Horseman, and this song is the one that the series ends with. I would have thought the same about the lyrics if i had already heard it before, but after the scene in which it plays, i think it can have, at least, another meaning. It's about moving on, yes, but moving on from a friend. In life we are always changing, and through that process, we sometimes meet people that are in a hole, and sometimes we find those people when we also are in a hole. And sometimes, they get out of it first or the other way around. The thing is, i think the song is talking about saying goodbye to that one person who that has issues not because we don't want to help them, but because we want to help us. We love them, because they were with us through all the journey of pain and maybe we even got help from them and we wanna help them but, now that we are out, we can see that their hole is deeper than ours, and that trying to help them it's been causing us to fall again. We love them, and because of it, be have to kiss them goodbye. With love them for what they were to us. For what they gave us in hard times and the moments that we had together. But now we have to keep going, because perhaps, that's the only way they can get out, and we can get going. I know it's a big explanation but i needed to express myself in this so, thanks if you read so far.

I think a lot of people can relate to having a mr blue inside of them. Ive struggled with depression most of my life and at 28, ive had some great moments for sure, and in those times its like i just told mr blue "i have to go now please dont be angry". Its like we have built this relationship with our sadness, and thats who mr blue is to me. Could also be about a lover who struggled with depression, but to me it makes more sense shes talkong to herself. Mr blue could be a reference to ELO mr blue sky which has a very similar theme of seeing the sunshine after a period of bleakness.

First comment! This song is beautifully written. In my opinion it's about this woman who loves this man and he is down and out. She is trying to reassure him and help him to get back on his feet with her love. Catherine Feeny's voice is dreamy.
