Sunlit and Ascending Lyrics

common places
haunted past
with all the woods now gone,
i knew it wouldn't last.
and all the faces are question marks
up and down the street
looking down the block

common places
haunted rooms
wandering inside
contemplating doom
it marks our faces,
when we don't smile.
don't get me out of bed
i want to lay here a while

so come another day
today i just cant
the faces are out there
this is your last chance

you must come out.

I can't believe nobody has commented on this song yet, it has got to be my favorite song from Perregrine. 2:34 into it gives me shivers, it's such beautiful song.

This song is definitely the most powerful off of Peregrine, maybe tied with Blind Man's Arrow, mostly because of the guitar.

Maybe it's about hiding yourself/secrets from others and how it hurts you, because everyone is a stranger. I don't know what the author meant, but what I get from how the song sounds and how it is sang I just feel like someone who is shy and needs to get out and make friends. To release him/herself.

I spelled -Peregrine- wrong in that comment I left a few months ago and it's been bothering me so this is me correcting it right now. PEREGRINE. With one r.

I always hear him saying UMA, instead of you must. haw haw. Uma's calling now, Uma. I always think of Uma Thurman. i wouldn't mind if she called me once in a while.

I strongly believe this song is about a trip. i have heard people say that this album has a lot to do with drugs (or maybe people just like to say that about all music) and although i havent gave the entire album a good listen (just purchased today) i get that feeling from the song. or maybe its just because i heard appleseed cast for the first time during my first and just before my first bad trip.

but... "common places. haunted past. with all the woods now gone, i knew it wouldnt last. and all the faces, are question marks. up and down the street. looking down the block."

  • a lot of times being in the woods tripping lets you just explore new and beautiful things but when you go back to something familiar that state of mind can change and get you into thinking deep about things you know or thought you knew.

"common places. haunted rooms. wandering inside. contemplating doom. it marks our faces, when we dont smile. dont get me out of bed. i want to lay here a while."

  • people sometimes thing the worst of things "contemplating doom" and no matter what they cant get it off their minds and want to dwell on it and try and figure it out or solve the "problem"

"so come another day, i just cant the faces are out there this is your last chance.

you must come out."

  • a lot of times people want the trip to end so badly but it seems as though no matter how hard you try, you can't get it to stop

Beautiful song... =/

i'm not sure if the song is really about drugs. it could be, but it's easy to take a metaphor and apply it to drugs especially trippy stuff.

this song is AWESOME. i think he's just writing about being reclusive to the world and the whole "all the faces are question marks" deal could mean that people aren't even like humans anymore. everything has changed and gone so generic. i have nights like these when "contemplate doom" and stuff. i think we all have those moments where we feel we don't belong in the world.

anyways that's my two cents. if anyone knows the meaning of this song for sure, let me know mkay.
