Perhaps Vampires Is a Bit Strong But... Lyrics
I've seen your eyes as they fix on me
What is he doing
What on earth's the plan, has he got one
You better give me some pointers since you are the big rocket launcher and i'm just the shotgun
Well I ain't got no dollar signs in my eyes
That might be a surprise but it's true
I'm not like you and I don't want your advice or your praise or to move in the ways you do
And I never will
Cause all you people are vampires
And all your stories are stale
And though you pretend to stand by us
I know you're certain we'll fail
I've seen your eyes as they fix on me
Full of confusion
Your snarl is just so condescending
Try to explain that we're on to a win
If the fee we got in
Near recoups what we're spending
He said
I can't believe that you drove all that way
Well how much did they pay you, how much did they pay you?
You'd have been better to stay round our way
Thinking about things but not actually doing the things
Cause all you people are vampires
And all your stories are stale
And though you pretend to stand by us
I know you're certain we'll fail
Cause all you people are vampires
And all your stories are stale
And though you pretend to stand by us
I know you're certain we'll fail
All you people are vampires
What is he doing
What on earth's the plan, has he got one
You better give me some pointers since you are the big rocket launcher and i'm just the shotgun
That might be a surprise but it's true

It's about pop journalists and critics, I love the lines:
'And though you pretend to stand by us I know you're certain we'll fail'
My impression of the song was that it was about either friends or just people in general that had been trying to get the band to focus on getting more money instead of getting across their music. The first part talks about someone watching him and that person wondering if he even has a plan, (to get money as we later see). Next he promises that he is not making music to make money, but that he is being pressured to. "Well I ain't got no dollar signs in my eyes. That might be a surprise but it's true" He doesn't think like the greedy people trying to make him sell out . Further in the song the person/company cannot understand why he doesn't want more money, only understanding their own greed. "I've seen your eyes as they fix on me Full of confusion" The Artic Monkeys eventually realize that these people are no use to them and only want to exploit them for any profit they can squeeze out of them and then drop them for the next big thing. Theres my interpretation, like to see what other people think, this is one of my favorite AM songs.
its pretty cool just telling the fakes to fuck off and get over it coz ther the real deal
All you people are wrong. In an interview Alex Turner was asked what the meaning of this song was. He answered that it actually was written regarding the people of Sheffield (their home town) and their lack of support. When he was asked whether they were glad to be called vampires his rebuttal was that they wasn't very happy with the title but he stood by the lyrics.
aye, its their view of the industry's 'build 'em up, bring 'em down' mentality.
I don't think it's about journalists but other bands that were bigger at the time who were giving them advice and telling them how to make money and become big rock stars.
to Retribution, i hope your not fucking seriose? nazi scum
ROFL LessThanJake4Life, you are honestly pathetic...How can people like you be so ignorant that you think if someone says something about the Jews, they are "Nazis"?? Get commie garbage out of our nation.
no, actually im pretty sure Retribution is in fact Nazi Scum... Just don't go to the Rosebud RSL LessThanJake4Life, you might be asked to sign a contract and amend the fact you aren't a communist if you wanna join there and get discounts ;)
