I remember this song. It brings back misty water colored memories. When I was younger I cried at this part. Now I laugh. I'm just kidding. I think, I lost the movie.
when they say "someone once lied to us" are they talking about Scar??
Yes they're talking about Scar; Kovu looks a bunch like him too which makes things all the more difficult for him.
Anyway this song still gives me chills, I'm seventeen and I was somewhere between eight and ten when the movie came out, the same chills I got from "Be Prepared" and "Circle of Life" from the original. The movie itself wasn't all that great but the soundtrack is as good as the original's.

The movie is basically a Romeo & Juliet story, much like I've heard the first one was hamlet. This song is at the point where Romeo(or, Kovu, in this case) was banished for killing Tulio.
Now that I'm older and read these lyrics, I feel more sad than when I was a child watching this. The way Simba and the other animals are so unforgiving...
