To me, this song is the ultimate song about unrequited love. The person singing is, after all this time, still yearning for that loved one, even though he or she does not feel the same way or no longer does.

"the weight it must be light wherever you are." Unlike you, that person feels no burden, has no heavy heart over all of this, while you suffer the burden of still loving he/she regardless. At this time, things have either gone so bad or you have waited so long that all that you say now is nothing to that person. In the end, you are left to hum this sad tune by yourself, in utter resignation. In the end, you accept that you two are simply on different paths, under different stars.

Despite the fact that listening to this song is like sticking a hot poker into an open wound for me, I cant help but listen to it repeatedly. Besides the awesome lyrics, the mellow yet solemn tone of the singer's voice is just absolutely captivating. Definitely one of the best if the THE best song by them.

I don't think I have heard a song better capture the absolute feeling of heart ache one feels when they realize that the person they love most in the world doesn't even care for them. It is something that I'm experiencing right now and despite the fact that this is one of the saddest songs I have ever heard, it makes me feel a little better to know someone else knows what it is like to suffer like this. There is no worse pain than being in love with someone who doesn't feel the same.

One of those songs that no matter how happy you are, when you hear it, you automatically feel sad. So powerful and heartbreaking.

"And i know you don't think twice wherever you are" those words kill. They are so heartbreakining to me. I love this song however. I love trespassers william so much, every song is amazing.

i think this song may be about a loved one who has died. not a lover, but maybe a parent; because of this:

like a parent might sing lullabys. this person has obviously been gone for a long time.

might indicate this person is in heaven, with no more cares or worries.

because they can't hear her where they are and earthly concerns are no longer of consequence.

it hints at a different circumstance of existence. as in the two cannot be together for physical reasons, like being on two different existential planes, rather than emotional reasons.

it is about unrequited love. but its an unrequited love that used to be requited.

I think its similar to yeahyeahyeah's "maps" or postal service's "such great heights" which are songs about long distance relationships caused by touring.

i think its about a failed long distance relationship. darkeyes had it right using the word "captivating" this song just takes my breath away.

I LOVE this song, it means so much to me. This whole 'different stars' album is amazing. She has such an amazing voice, yet, heartbreaking.
