People To People Lyrics

The women in the valley forge
They go day to day
Don't let them raid my home and
My home and place
But the man they can't see beyond
So they war and war
They don't remember
what they came here for

People to people are so unjust
Carry yourself well so
Carry yourself well
People to people are so unjust
Carry yourself well so
Carry yourself well

Women in the valley forged her
The once home of the brave
Don't let them raid me home and
My home in place
But the men they can't see beyond
So they become what they hate
They don't see that the moon has just
Yeah the moon is just getting its legs

People to people are so unjust
Carry yourself well so
Carry yourself well
People to people are so unjust
Carry yourself well so
Carry yourself well

Carry yourself well

And you don't even close the barn door
After the horses have scattered
And no one knows anymore
Where all the souls have gathered
Though they will keep an eye on what you do
And when the people have spoken
You won't cry mercy on, mercy on you
Cause we will, we will be alive just broken

People to people are so unjust
Carry yourself well so
Carry yourself well
People to people are so unjust
Carry yourself well so
Carry yourself well

I think its about a woman whos house is being raided by soldiers or officials of some sort, and its saying that people dont treat eachother fairly. I think the second to last stanza is how they disrespected her and didnt care to "clean up" after themselves.

This is really just a guess, someone correct me

Hmm, maybe it has something to do with the soldiers raiding and basically interfering in the lives of the civilians in Iraq?

i agree with the soldiers invading iraqi civilians lives idea and also i think it has to do with some americans, even soldiers may have even forgotten why we were supposed to be over there..though im not sure anyone really knows anymore. I thought of that with the last couple lines of the first stanza. Also, i think its from the person who is being invaded's perspective and how their view of the US has changed in recent times and from recent events to "please dont invade my home" when it used to be "the land of the free and the home of the brave." Also i think the speech you hear in the background is JFK's speech after MLK jr was killed, and that works along the lines of invading others' rights/treating each other unfairly.

When I heard the song, I thought of it as a statement on America not being what it is meant to be. I think being in the valley, is symbolic of being in the lower class (valleys are low, and they are surrounded by mountains that are high and mighty). It was these people in the valleys/lower class that forged America. It was intended to be a place where people were free of persecution, where they wouldnt be judged by their religion, creed, etc. But many "dont remember what they came here for." These people are looking down at the people in the valleys, from their high and mighty mountains. They have "become what they hate." Though there is no 'right' way to live ("and noone knows"), they have no problem to "keep an eye on you", and tell you that your way is not 'right'. When they say "carry yourself well" they mean live the 'right' life. "The once home of the brave" has changed because the beliefs that America was built on have all scattered like the horses. Noone closing the barn door is symbollic of the way that this transition of Americans met no obstacles. Though America is not the great idea that it was meant to be, America is still alive. It's foundations are just broken.

Klal531 was close on the speech in the background... it is indeed a Kennedy, but it's Bobby not John. It was after Martin Luther King's death though

Bob Marley was also quotes as saying Man to Man is unjust. it could be based upon this as well

Okay I always thought the song said "don't let them rape my women, my home and place" Which makes a lot more sense to me becaue when it says, " and they don't even close the barn door" etc. it's because they don't even care that people see them raping the women. I guess I was wrong but it made for a much better song to me.
