Strange We Should Meet Here Lyrics

If only we could
Be friends for a time
Friends for a time
I would be so
Glad to call you mine
So glad to call you mine

And now that we've loved
And laughed a thousand times
We've died a thousand times
I'll ask you to give me
All of your time
All of your time

(Come on, I could be anyone)
You remind me
(Oh, please don't go)
Of someone I used to know
(Come on, I could be anyone)
You remind me
(Oh, please don't go)
Of someone I used to know
(You've become someone else)
(You've become someone else)

And now that we've died
Our souls we'll realign
A marriage so divine
In heaven
Everything is fine
Everything is fine

This song really blows me away, man. The lyrics seem to be of a transcendent nature. About the transition from life to death and then to something more. "And now that we've died [not so sure about the posted lyrics above], our souls will re-allign, a murder so divine" seems like its saying that in the now of love, death ceases to be a separating force and becomes something of a rapture. "Everything is fine." Eternal peace.

Also to think about, in the beginning of the song, he says "we laughed a thousand times, we died a thousand times." Maybe he's alluding to a moments of clarity brought about by such meaningful companionship that they crush you with the heaviness of death, and then bring you beyond it to something so brilliant and beautiful. Little glimpses of heaven so sublime and transcendent that you have to metaphorically die to observe.

"You remind me of someone I used to know." Seems like this is alluding to how if you died and all the piss and shit and lies that existed while you were alive were removed, you might not even recognize the person you thought you knew, even if you thought you knew them well. At least the sort of clarity that we seem to acheive at certain moments would become the rule and not the exception, and with this clarity we would see things so differently that the people we knew when we were alive would only remind us of "someone I used to know."

I guess.

I hope this band gets the popularity they deserve sooner or later, cause they really rock out in the best way possible.

As for the meaning, I'd have to agree with n0anesthetic, while adding that death, heaven, etc, can all be allusions to the multiple lives we live from day to day. We all change and grow and this is how we've lived a thousand times. And I've had moments like this, like I'm living another life completely and I don't even recognize the people I used to know because they've changed as well.

in poetry little deaths are a reference to climax so

And now that we've loved And laughed a thousand times We've died a thousand times

the last line could equally be a reference to sex

This feels like a song about a rocky relationship between two people who have been hiding things from each other. Maybe just now finding some things out. "(Come on, I could be anyone)" "(You've become someone else)" "You remind me of someone I used to know" etc. Both of these lines could imply that these two people (in this 'marriage so divine') don't really know anything about each other. Also, "And now that we've died" Does this hint at a breakup?

I miss the whole SWSMH time. I remember when this came out and subsequently the looong wait to Wolves. I was so disappointed with Wolves.
