A Pirate Looks at 40 (Jimmy Buffet cover) Lyrics

Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
cause you've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you switched from sails to steam
And in your belly you hold the treasures few have ever seen
Most of 'em are dreams, most of 'em are dreams
Yes I am a pirate, two hundred years too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an under-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late
I've done a bit of smugglin', I've run my share of grass
I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast
it's never meant to last, never meant to last
And I have been drunk now for over two weeks
I passed out and I rallied and I sprung a few leaks
But I got stop wishin', got to go fishin'
Down to rock bottom again
With just a few friends, just a few friends
With just a few friends, just a few friends

jack almost pulls it off but its no match for the original sung by the man jimmy buffett. its about a guy who wishes he could just be a pirate but is born in the wrong time when they no longer exist really.

Yeah he was a great singer/songwriter with a different style to jack but jack definately pulls it off so much better. Possibly my favourite from jack depending on what mood i'm in even though it is a cover.

Wow, I wish I could hear Jack, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds singing this song. I learn so much from reading other peoples comments because I never knew this was originally done by Jimmy Buffett!
