We've only just begun to live
White lace and promises
A kiss for luck and we're on our way
(We've only begun)

Before the risin' sun, we fly
So many roads to choose
We'll start out walkin' and learn to run
(And yes, we've just begun)

Sharing horizons that are new to us
Watchin the signs along the way
Talkin' it over, just the two of us
Workin' together day to day
Together

And when the evening comes, we smile
So much of life ahead
We'll find a place where there's room to grow
(And yes, we've just begun)

Sharing horizons that are new to us
Watchin' the signs along the way
Talkin' it over, just the two of us
Workin' together day to day
Together
Together

And when the evening comes, we smile
So much of life ahead
We'll find a place where there's room to grow
And yes, we've just begun

    My Interpretation

I definately think of a wedding when I hear this song. "White lace and promises, a kiss for luck and we're on our way." I think this song is all about a married couple. Maybe an eloping couple? I love when the tempo speeds up and the sax is added. But definately a song for a married couple :)

Haunting and beautiful song. It's a very hopefull song, I think. Like the start of a relationship. Also I saw 1408 yesterday, so now it's a little creepy. Hahaha!

The music and the song's meaningful lyrics represents positiveness, hope and beauty of life, love. When I first listened to this song, instantly I started visualising the song as if I am watching its video. Really very beautiful song. :)

I think this definitely is a song between two lovers. The way I took it was that she is describing her wedding. ("White lace and promises/A kiss for luck and we're on our way") I think she's talking about the life ahead of them and how marriage is just the beggining. I guess it could be about friends or siblings going to college or something but the "white lace and promises" would kind of throw that theory off. Who knows. :)

I don't know if people realise this song was written as a jingle for a bank - hence the wedding/starting out in life theme - they added the bridge and other verses later, in a hurry, when someone wanted to record it. A fun bit of background to a lovely sentimental characteristic Paul Williams song.

    "Just the two of us"

Is this song romantic, or can it also be about, say, two siblings or best friends? I mean, I like it either way. Just curious.

mypianoandme took the words out of my mouth. That is exactly what I'm thinking. I think they are newlyweds.

Watching 1408 brought back memories of this song, and it DOES sound a bit creepy. Creepy as in haunting or somewhat... melancholic. Mainly the lines:

"Before the rising sun, we fly So many roads to choose We start out walking and learn to run"

I know this is commonly viewed as a wedding song and I can understand why. However, I always viewed it as more of a retrospective song about an old lady or old couple reminiscing on their lives and ironically or perhaps optimistically stating that they've "only just begun." I get this vibe because of the somewhat melancholy but beautiful way Karen sings it.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
