Unchanging Lyrics
And we will show that wherever you are
That is where all time starts
It's a pleasure to die
A pleasure to be gone
Into the sky we move on
Life is unchanging
It let me go
Life gave me up
And i have no control
I have no control
Everything goes a way that i do not
I clean up the clouds i ride
I've never been up where i see the others climb
Seems like it must be nice
Laughter's an ugly friend of mine
We share the best and worst of times
Everyone goes where they belong
Nobody goes elsewhere
Never much thought goes to being
Right or wrong
Right or wrong
That is where all time starts
It's a pleasure to die
A pleasure to be gone
Into the sky we move on
Life is unchanging
It let me go
Life gave me up
And i have no control
I have no control
Everything goes a way that i do not
I clean up the clouds i ride
I've never been up where i see the others climb
Seems like it must be nice
Laughter's an ugly friend of mine
We share the best and worst of times
Everyone goes where they belong
Nobody goes elsewhere
Never much thought goes to being
Right or wrong
Right or wrong

“And we will show that wherever you are That is where all time starts” I like tot think that the “you” refers to the lifepartner you are waiting and longing for. I always had this romantic idea that everything in life will make sense when you meet that ideal person.
“It's a pleasure to die A pleasure to be gone Into the sky we move on” Freeing your mind from the day to day reality, can be very enlightning. I think everyone has those crystal clear moments from time to time.
“Life is unchanging It let me go Life gave me up And i have no control I have no control” You can loose yourself and feel stuck in life. The feeling like you’re not in control to change your life comes along with that.
“Everything goes a way that i do not” The choices you make in life are not on the level with who you are and what you actually want.
“I clean up the clouds i ride” But eventually you clean up the clouds you ride, to have a clear sky again. A new start.
“I've never been up where i see the others climb Seems like it must be nice” This to me describes the feeling of loneliness when you don’t know yourself. It seems like everybody around you just move forward and don’t struggle with it as much as you do. (Haha my interpretation of this song has gone way to personal)
“Laughter's an ugly friend of mine We share the best and worst of times” Laughter has beauty in it, it can be such a relieved feeling. Sometimes you don’t have to take yourself too seriously. But when you feel really lost, laughter just doesn’t have that same effect. You want to be taken seriously. Also laughter can serve as an ugly mask.
“Everyone goes where they belong Nobody goes elsewhere Never much thought goes to being Right or wrong Right or wrong” People can be ignorant and barely stop and think about what they’re doing. Sometimes it can be enlightning to stop everything and to just be. Just being and looking at your life with no judgements. But that can be hard.
why has no one commented, i will try...
i think this is about john not belonging in this world, he belongs somewhere else, another dimension, of spirits and life.
'its a pleasure to die, a pleasure to die, into the sky we move on' hel be happy when he moves on because he will hopefully go to the world he belongs to.
'i have no control' where he goes next he has no control over, but hel continue to find his place.
'everything goes a way i do not' in this world he thinks differently, and they dont function together, he is on a differnet level, and it doesnt go with the way he wants does.
'ive never been up where i see the others climb, seems like it must be nice' hes never found anyone who is like him, who is searching for the same world, and it must be nice for others in this world to have ppl around them who belong here. he doesnt have that so he looks forward to it.
'everyone goes where they belong, nobody goes anywhere else' everyone here seems to belong, and they are in the right place.
'never much thought goes to being right or wrong' people here accept that they are here, and dont ever really think about whether its actually their place to be or challange the idea of belonging in somewhere else. they just carry on, oblivious really. whereas he has thought about, and has realised that this is not the true place he needs to be. but hel go on and find it soon.
hard to understand. again i could be completly wrong, but all these thoughts on this song have just come to me. any other views?
correction but hel go on and find it.
Not but hel go on and find it soon.
I really like redandhot's interpretation. Last night when I was all delirious and in a daze I had this song figured out completely but now it's gone. I don't care, it's so beautiful it doesn't matter what it means
This is just the most beautiful song of all time and means a lot to me. I don't think Red_and_Hot's interpretation of it is in a physical sense (ie; John's gonna enter another plane of existence like a Heaven or something) more his mind functions on a deeper level and he feels no-one else can connect to that. To me, this songs is about not being understood by anyone else, and no-one tries to understand (life is unchanging) The pleasure to die and pleasure to be gone, into the sky we move on is possibly a metophor for freeing his mind from it's earthly plane and letting it enter his fourth dimension whilst the rest of the world stays on a level that doesn't understand - unchanging. This is the song I want played at my funeral.
My favorite line of the song is, "laughter's an ugly friend of mine, we share the best and worst of times."
Sometimes hearing others laughing, especially when you are by yourself, can sound so hollow and make you feel so lonely and haunted....sort of like this song.
