I think in this song Josh is refering to the bible verse, about wolves in sheeps clothing. He uses that as a theme a lot in his song writting. White teeth and black lungs might be talking about christians who try to look pure on the outside, but on the inside their souls aren't so pure....I still can't quite figure out "the revolutionary fade 'I get bored" part.

I dont know if it holds a religious message. i think its referring to how we as humans are so concerned with the outside appearances, we dont worry about what we are inside; like feelings, virtues, values, morals.

"Blank stare" - dead on thi inside "Smile with teeth exposed" - talking about physical appearence "Novocaine" - mentally, emotionally numbed, maybe? "All we are, are crocodiles" - crocs are knon to be moraless and dumb. things that only look out for themselves "Black out" - not thinking "Blessed we come and blessed we go" - im not totally sure, but it has something to do with not holding true to religion, possibly? "But this world is full of white teeth and black lungs" outside is nice, but inside not so healthy "The skin bares no scar" the mental/emotional "bad" doesnt show on the outside clearly "But it is gray" - but can be seen if you look "Your smile is so great" - sortof repeating "But your face is blank" "Think not, don't think: suffice" - going back to croccidiles, not thinking, just doing what makes you feel good "The revolutionary fade" - not totally sure, but i think its saying that the health humans have on the inside, mentally/emotionally is fading "I get bored" - no idea, haha "You're drowning in ankle deep water" - the truth is so clear, so easy to understand, and yet you still dont see it

i like dom557's comments. crocodiles are also anachronisms--really old animals that survive despite a huge change in circumstance only by domination and being "immoral." blessed we come and blessed we go could also be a reference to the dichotomous notions of good intentions/the doctrine of dual effect (not being held responsible for the forseealbe consequences, but only the direct intended effect).

think not, don't think is a cleverly disguised palindrome--"suffice": sufficiency, taking what's necessary, sustainably take what you must.

In a nutshell, its about how people get easily misled, and how its easy to tell that they are, they just go with. "Your drownig in ankle deep water" show that someone is slipping from God when the temptation is low.

"the revolutionary fade, i get bored" part to me is like how you can fall short on trying to keep up your faith and be a righteous christian, like its an excuse often given to give up on god and all the christian things christians do

"All we are are Crocodiles" makes me think about those girls that look so dollish and fake, like they're faces were made "pretty" by plastic surgery and makeup, or like the song says, "Novocaine"

or perhaps in general of how our idea of being/ looking "perfect" is hollow and blank

I’ve heard this song forever and just recently decided to look at the lyrics, and I fell in love with this message. What I’m getting from it is basically followers of God/the church. Basically like some others have said. They have nice smiles but that’s the extent of it. What they say and do doesn’t align with who they are supposed to be. Either that or the leaders they are following are the same way. But my favorite line for sure is the revolutionary fade and blank stare. Again, just my interpretation, but the revolutionary is the follower of God who is in the revolution. They are in the battle to expand the kingdom of God. It’s not a game and it’s not a passive activity. But the revolutionary fades because of the distractions and things of this earth, and they’re left with a blank stare. Just basically staring off not doing anything and not entering the revolution. Anyway, I made a T-shirt on Etsy under life to the full designs with a variation of these lyrics on it, because I loved it so much. Long Live the Chariot!
