This song is about Columbine and how a girl named Cassie Bernall was asked "Do you believe in God?" before Eric Harris killed her. She was named as a martyr because of it. The lead singer of Flyleaf (Lacey Mosely) is saying that we should all follow Cassie's example and stand up for our beliefs even at the risk of death.
It's so awesome that Flyleaf can write songs like this; it has so much meaning. I'm by no means Christian but I still support Racheal/Cassie (whoevers!) bold reply, and this song still makes me want to cry.
Actually, neither Cassie Bernall nor Rachel Scott was asked if they believed in God. Rachel was shot in the back and in the head outside. She never talked to the shooters during the ordeal. And Cassie Bernall was just really unlucky. Harris, one of the shooters, banged on the top of the table she was under, bent down, said "peek-a-boo" and shot her in the head. There were no questions about God between her and her killer. And that has been verified by the girl that was actually sitting right next to her when she died.
But, there was one person that was asked if they believed in God, her name was Valeen Schnurr. She was saying “oh god” out loud, and Klebold asked her is she believed in God. She said yes, then no, then yes. He asked her why, she said because that’s what her family believed in (or something along those lines). He spared her life. She survived the massacre, but she was injured.
Nobody at Columbine was killed for being a Christian.
Despite all that, I still like this song. It’s strong message. Even if Cassie didn’t really die for something she believed in, the idea of someone doing that is very noble.

Actually, there is a book out about this. Its called She said yes. It tells about CASSIE'S life and how she started off as a typical teenager who struggles with depression and self-loathing. Through her youth group she found peace and a purpose in life. And it was CASSIE who said yes when asked if she believed in god. I don't think there would have been a published book out about this if it was just some made up story.
columbine.....the modern-day holocost. it shined a light in a lot of dark rooms. and yet nobody learned, they did it because they were the outcasts. they didn't fit in, they were picked on and prodded like animals. what they did isn't what you might call "good", but it did show something, we dont accept differentiality. we needed to learn, those two were the professors in the matter. you can agree or disagree with this...in the end it might not really matter. but i feel it's true -nemo-
i agree with you to a point, but there are many of us that were outcasts who didnt gun down our schoolmates. i think, in the end - this was a parental problem. yes, it takes a village to raise a child - BUT if you dont have strong morals at home (ie. you know, murder is bad.) you're going to have problems. thats not to say that all killers have bad parents, but i think 90% of the time you will find some sort of abuse at home, be it mental, emotional or physical.

The first time i heard this song i knew it was about columbine... i was talking about it with my friend and i was like "is this song about columbine"

okay for all you stupid people that think that columbine was a theory or fake or whatever else. it wasnt. it was totally real and it was a tragic thing. The song Cassie was about Cassie Bernall who was infact shot because she believed in god. not because eric played peek a boo. That happend to a kid named issah shoels. A friend of mine was actually baby sat by Cassie when he was younger. all you people that think you know all about columbine need to get the facts before you go talking about it. i knew people from columbine that were shot that day. it was sad. and it's even more sad that eric and dylan had to do something like that because at that time no one was accepting of them. it's a great song by flyleaf and byfar one of my favorites.

Its a really great song, and everyone's pretty much right about it being the Columbine massacre, though I have no idea where people are getting all the theories of it not being real and Cassie not being asked, it doesn't really matter in relation to the song anyway, because the meaning of the song is to stand up for what you believe in no matter what, to have conviction in yourself and your faith.
I really like this song and i really have no veiw of the whole columbine thing. but i was so young when that happened i was living in minnesota. (we had moved from Colorado 2 years before) i didnt really know or care at that age( i was going thru my parents divorce). but as i got older. i realized how close to home that was. i dont know much more. BUT I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! AND THIS CD!!!!
